[WTS] Realforce 87ub (45g+55g topre) *Price Drop*
« on: Thu, 07 May 2015, 19:50:13 »
Hello friends, I would like to sell a realforce 87ub with 45g and 55g topre switches.

The main area of the keyboard is all 45g,  The arrow cluster / home cluster / Numlock cluster / and F row clusters are all 55g.

I am asking 185$ shipped CONUS

*PRICE DROP*

175$  SHIPPED CONUS,  CMON FELLAS HELP A DUDE OUT LOL!

This board was used as a donor board for my HHKB to turn it into 55g.
Please also note that the WIN and ALT keys have been swapped with HHKB keycaps, but still retain the same function.
The keyboard is new and never used, other than dissasembly / reassembly.
Will come with all original accessories and original OEM box.

If there is a certain place you would like 45g / 55g domes, let me know and I will relocate the domes for you.

seems as though it is very easy to swap domes? That makes them different from swapping Cherry MX springs I guess.

You would be correct, it's as simple as opening the keyboard lifting out the other domes and placing the new one in and closing it up.

Really the only thing to watch out for is when you open the board you dont go crazy and rip the cable off the controller.

Other than that, probably all you need is patience and time

does that mean it is very easy to swap out parts for cheaper ones from the Novatouch or Noppoo? A Gher (I think bctopre) was selling his Royal Kludge on the classifieds and he said he'd swapped the domes for more expensive Topre ones. I can easily see that going the other way, where a dishonest person swaps in cheapo parts and sells the FrankenRealforce to unknowing buyers.

That's not actually correct, I had only swapped the Topre springs into the Kludge. Gave up on the Topre RGB dream because it was too much effort required to swap the domes in when I already had my no-more-keyboards-HHKB betime the Kludge was finally delivered, and the Topre domes would've covered up the LEDs.

I'd say it is possible to put Kludge/Noppoo domes into a Topre board, but it would require some work (probably a lot). The spacing between keys is slightly different than with Topre, and the entire sheet is all attached together (whereas with Topre it's usually done in strings), so it'd take a lot of cutting to get it all lined up right. And without an even more extensive amount of cutting, you couldn't get the clone domes to settle properly in the Topre housing because it doesn't have the little cutout/flaps on the side of each dome to line up with the "notch" on each side of the Topre housing (that is used to hold the dome in place). So you'd likely get a more inconsistent typing experience.

So yeah, possible. But will it happen? Doubt it. Too much work. Sorry if the above doesn't make sense, in a hurry.

^tldr:
Realforces and HHKB are swappable easily
Novatouch is a bit harder and requires a little cutting

Everything else is a pain in the ass to swap.

Oh great btctopre and Iounutz

Thanks for contributing this information to the GH repository. That way no one will buy an expensive Topre and try to put its parts into a Kludge to get leds or to get MX compatibility.

I don't quite appreciate Topres but was open minded as to buying a Kludge because these guys are cheaper and I wanted to know if there was something quieter than me jailhouse mods.

But do you have any opinion on the quality of the rubber domes? I imagine Chinese manufacturers may have cut costs on the rubber domes making them less lasting than the Topre.

(I apologize to mods and OP for crapping up a classifieds thread)
To be honest, I didn't spend enough time with the Kludge to be able to give a real solid opinion of the domes. There are also other factors that play into the overall feel of a Topre/clone board (keycaps, slider, housing rails, backplate, spring, case material, etc.) that make it difficult to make a direct comparison between the two. A common response though is that the Kludge/Noppoo domes feel lighter than the same Topre weighting, though I've never pulled out the coins and actually tested it. Since I'm having trouble selling my Kludge, I might pull it out and use it this weekend to get a better feel for it (probably not because I'm lazy)

As far as longevity goes, no idea. But given how a lot of people's LEDs aren't working from the get-go (nice QA), it wouldn't be surprising to find out the Chinese domes have issues down the road.

Which is why people looking to buy a Topre TKL should consider buying from OP, as he's offering one up at a very reasonable price (OH YEAHHHHH, FINISHING BACK ON TOPIC SORT OF).

I also apologize for derailing the thread. I'd simply forgotten that this is not the Kludge thread (which OP and the two of us have posted on at some time.).

That said, $185 shipped for a new Topre TKL is really cheap. I'm guessing that OP is having trouble selling now only because it's school exams. 1 month before Christmas, it'd have gone in a flash.
