Realforce 87u EK and windows key in OS X
« on: Fri, 02 January 2015, 22:10:38 »
I can't seem to get the windows key on my Realforce 87u EK edition to register in OS X (Yosemite). I searched the boards and the web and didn't see any mention of this. Many people mention using the Keyboard System Preference to re-map the key, but mine doesn't even register. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

I've tried with it both on and off. Nothing. A little confusing that turning the dip switch off enables the Windows/Context key... I'm not even sure I understand what context key is for.

Just in case you don't know, the keyboard needs to be unplugged when you adjust the dip switches.
Maybe you can try unplugging, switch the dip switch, and then plug back in to see if it works?  :thumb:

Anyway just to let you know, I'm using my 87U with my MBP dual booting Yosmite and Win 8.1.
No problems with the Winkey registering as CMD in Yosemite, but it seems that the Num Lock won't work in OSX.
This keyboard is not 100% compatible with OSX. The only Topre keyboard I know that works well in OSX is the HHKB.  :-X

Unplugging the keyboard then changing the DIP switch did the trick. I restarted a couple times trying for that same effect, but the keyboard is plugged into a powered hub. Lesson learned. Thank you very much!

I knew coming into this that the num lock wouldn't work. That doesn't bother me so much. Thanks again!

If you would like the NumLock light and the embedded numerical keypad to work on your RF 87u with OSX, you can do this by using Karabiner software. Look in Karabiner Preferences under "Samples for Karabiner Binding Developers". There is a checkbox for "Toggle NumLock by fn-escape".
