Long overdue introduction and some questions
« on: Sat, 07 February 2015, 02:16:16 »
Dammit, had written a long post and seems like I got timed out so here is the TL;DR; version.

Hello, I'm a longtime lurker and it has finally gotten to the time where I need to introduce myself. So hi.

If I'm going to program a keyboard as hasu did with his hhkb, would that only work for one keyboard layout? As in if I have a norwegian layout and program it would I be able to use it when I get to a guy that has a german layout on his keyboard?

Has anyone programmed a WASD V2 keyboard? And knows of any guides like that or similar that would be helpful?

Welcome to Geekhack!

I guess it would depend on how flexible the programming was, as to how well it worked with different layouts.

I'd guess you'd probably need a different map for each layout, but never having fiddled around with this kind of thing it is a guess.

If you don't get any replies, you can always ask in the making stuff together area for a probably far better informed reply :p
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
