Clear IBM Model M Keycaps
« on: Fri, 13 February 2015, 14:08:33 »
I read in the manual that came with the IBM 3161 terminal I picked up that the 3163 version of the terminal comes with a keyboard that allows you to use translucent keycaps to re-label keyboard keys. I'd like to ask whether anyone here knows where I could find some of these, besides here.
Were they pretty rare? were they mentioned but never actually produced? If IBM ones are out of the question, can anyone suggest alternative manufacturers that make decent keycaps for the M?

I don't think unicomp makes translucent keycaps.
I don't usually collect things, but when I do, they're from the 70's, 80's, and 90's. My typing speed: 79 WPM
IBM Model M 1386303, 1987 / IBM Model M 1391401, 1993 / IBM Model M 59G7980, 1993 / Unicomp "Mini M" UT40E7A (modded), 2021 / Dell AT101W, 1994 (Black Alps) / Apple Extended Keyboard (Orange Alps), 1987 / Sun Type 5, unknown year (Rubber Dome)

Apparently they sell the clear key caps, but I have never purchased any so I cannot provide any feedback etc. I have 50 clear key caps from the 50 key that I have, if you could find a 50 key you may be able to get some that way.

There are some out there, mostly from folks who have purchased 4704 F50s and 4704 F107s recently (such as myself).  They are pretty brittle and yellowed with age though.  I also saw a template for a printable legend either here or on DT not too long ago.
