Which keyboard caused all your issues?
For better or in most cases for the worst, which keyboard really started you down the enthusiast path and has influenced you the most?

The Dell SK-8135's at work constantly influence me to spend more on keyboards lol. I have to look at them everyday. Sometimes I have to type on them. EW.

The one that started it all for me was a Poker with a Classic Beige Cherry set, someone posted on over on Overclockers AU and it was all over from there. Funnily enough three years on I have almost the exact same board.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

fohat.digs sent me a terminal Model M to see if I could convert to USB just for fun.  In addition, he also sent me a IBM M2.  This (M2) keyboard completely caught me off guard!

It's often hated on because it's not as "sturdy" as its other family members [those with broken plastic rivets ;)] yet the lack of metal plate on the M2 gives it a feel that's very reminiscent of the comparisons between the HHKB and Realforce.  I also love the leaner lower profile shape that's absent from mechanical keyboards of this era.

It breaks my heart knowing how many of these keyboards ended up in a landfill because of the capacitor issue; which you will likely need to take care of if it hasn't been already.

This was when I realized that I could get custom keycaps for my boards. And finding Dan's blog led me to Geekhack.

I have a hard time picking just one, the poker (blank caps and red mx switches to be exact) is what brought me here because I saw one on another forum a long time ago and when I searched for it I found this place.

But then coolermaster boards were like a gateway drug that quickly led to my ducky with stock mx clears which held my interest until recently.

And finally you end up with the HHKB which first introduced me to topre, drug me down into the pits of despair so I sold all my topre then the HHKB Type-S which has brought me full circle back to the world of topre.

Researching the F XT and Model M brought me here originally, but when Soarer proved that the 122-key Model F could be realistically made into a near-ANSI, USB compatible modern keyboard, well, that is where I landed.
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

I think reading and reading about the Soarer's converter attracted me more and more to this forum.  I was amazed that something that "couldn't" be done actually can.  This is a lifesaver for many vintage keyboards to date.  Resurrecting the keyboards from the past and bringing them into the future.
I know there are newer and fancier keyboards out there, with backlit keys and a million colors to choose, but flashy doesn't compare to what they were.  Actual workhorses that people used for years and years.
Down the road, I can say that (to be honest) I'm kinda boring by comparison to a lot of people here.  There really isn't much I can say that hasn't been said before.
I felt intimidated and alone when I came here.  I was excited, and wanted to tell everyone about all the fancy stuff I have.  It's just a drop in an ocean compared to everyone here.  I'm making some new friends and spending ($$ too!) more time here than I ever thought I could imagine.
It's a lot of fun to see what others have come up with! All the creative new ideas and bringing back the old ones too.

What a fantastic place this really is!

Makes me wonder if those were "influenced people" influencing you to get that stuff you have so nicely stored in that corner.
My thought is that none of them are what you prefer.  Are you having a garage sale soon?

This keyboard was posted to Dan's blog on January 31. I joined geekhack and the LZ-GH group buy on February 7.

I had been into mechanical keyboards for awhile at that point, but this was a critical turning point for me.

That LZ-SE is what got me into keyboards too. Well, beyond Filcos and stuff anyway.

After that.. Sixty's pictures are what got me into vintage keyboards. In particular, his G80-2000 photos. I'm lucky enough to own this exact keyboard, which I bought from him last year. The keyboard that got me into vintage keyboards.

Unicomp w/Buckling Springs brought me here...twas my first real mech board, but it got water in it, and I scrambled to find an alternative.

As far as influence, I'd say Cherry MX, Brown and Black varieties, especially those from Filco, those Majestouch videos and photos were just unreal.

Huh?

I wash every component of a buckling spring keyboard, except for the controller, in soapy water as a matter of course.
(Well, actually, I do often skip the spring hammers if they look clean, and I generally just wipe down the membranes.)

But you have to be doing a bolt mod for this to be feasible.

The Poker II is what intrigued me to delve into the mechanical keyboard world.
The reason why I stayed is because there were a bunch of other amazing keyboards that just sucked me in even deeper, but none more than the Poker.

I'll say the LZ Alu Skin I bought off of Photoelectric. It's the board that truly pushed me back towards linear switches, and the entire reason I'll be using vintage blacks in my TX1800 build. That board is also the reason I learned as much as I know because I had so many questions for her about the board upon arrival. It's also the only board I've sold that I legitimately miss.

Wow thank you all I'm very flattered. I never knew my boards would influence people to take interest in our little hobby. So I guess I owe you all an apology muahahaha. I'm also a little upset because my GON was the first keyboard I ever fully assembled myself, and it was just done so embarrassingly poorly. I guess it was one of the first, so I guess I'll have to just make some better and cooler keyboards :) I wish I got in on Miami Twice. Unfortunately I don't have money since I bought a plane ticket.

Ah enough off topic, I got into keyboards because I played starcraft and was curious about the legendary DT-35 AKA the best keyboard ever.

I mean god damn, you got so many people hooked on keyboard drugs which you admit to poorly making and then you tell me you watched starcraft and you got hooked on the DT-35 of all things.
What, Leopold wasn't good enough for you?
Anyways you can repent as long as you don't tell me protoss is your favorite race.
