SP DSA Dolch question ?
« on: Tue, 24 February 2015, 04:47:07 »
Hey All~
I just received my SP Dolch Gamer set while the rest of the set Base and TK Is still en route being shipped. I noticed with this set and actually every key I have ordered from SP has a little notch or defect at the bottom lip of each Cap. I went back and looked at other keys I have received from them granted are all novelty type keys and the Dolch is going to be the first complete set I have ordered, but I am really hoping that rest of the set when it arrives does not have this defect. My question is... Can any of you guys or gal that have more experience with SP caps tell me if this little imperfection is normal in SP caps. If it is I am kind of disappointed I spent a $100 or so bucks on a key cap set. Also the keys feel very thin and cheap. My Tai Hao and Vortex Key Cap sets Feel much more substantial and of course the keys are not marred. Thanks all I'm new to this and just getting started with my collection ..... :thumb:

That imperfection is normal, it's a sprue (I think it's called that way) from the injection mold, it can't be avoided, it present on all caps from all producers, but on some it will show more than on others. It depends on the mold mostly and on post processing technology. After you put the caps on the board you won't even see it anymore.

That's completely normal, it's not a defect.  It's called a sprue mark.  It's from the channel they use to inject plastic into the mold.

It wont affect your keystroke and you wont be able to see them while on your board.

Don't worry about it, you'll be happy with them.  I have the same set and they look really nice.

Thanks! That definitely puts my mind at ease . Although I have a slight case of OCD lo so we will see. Any recommended sanding or filing to fix this if decided upon..?

@Sed8op8:I wouldn't start start doing that, mainly because of all the work involved. But you can try some wet sanding paper, start with bigger grains and move one to finer ones. Don't have any experience in that, but there are a lot of guides on the internet on how to do that. It will be some trial and error involved but I think you can make it. But again, after you put the caps on the board you won't see that anymore  :thumb:

@Keyzus: I'm not that fast, you know  :)) don't even touch type  :p
