is anyone else's poker2 extremely glitchy?
« on: Thu, 26 February 2015, 14:12:17 »
i have problems with my poker2
they seem to be to do with the fn+z key combination, certain keys on my poker get toggled and i have to reset the poker2 and restart my pc for it to go back to normal
for example, i pressed alt+shift to switch to QWERTY, and then alt+3 to type the euro symbol
this caused my right ALT to work as capslock and for my FN keys to not work at all
am i missing something, or is this a huge bug in the poker2 that i never see mentioned?

My Poker does not have any issues - and I use it as my daily driver so it sees a lot of use. I tried the same key combinations and didn't see the behavior you do. I hope you get it figured out!

weirdly my other poker2 did the same, maybe it's an issue with the keyboard layout i use (dvorak-qwerty) or my autohotkey script

I can't say with confidence that my poker II is glitchy, rather I've probably hit keys by mistake. Sometimes a key press will open a menu of the program I'm currently using. For instance, I'll press I'll press a key and my File menu will open in my browser. I'll press another key and it might cycle down through the menu to a different option. Another key press might open a different menu, like View or Tools.

I'm assuming I have accidentally put myself in an FN mode or programming mode but haven't figured out which key combination will get me out of that mode (without unplugging the keyboard).

When I first got it, I had to unplug and reconnect it several times in the first few days (or even weeks) as I'd hit some key combination by mistake that switched on one of its special modes. I started thinking that it was buggy, as I couldn't figure out why certain keys would keep acting strange. I now realise that it works (mostly if not entirely) perfectly and that all my mistakes were user errors. I still trip over these combinations but I realise now that I just have to work out what I pressed, and do the same a second time.

I've never had to restart my PC to clear any faults.

There's a topic somewhere here about firmware upgrades, and some of the replacement firmware versions seemed to have been buggy, so it's certainly conceivable that your version of firmware is defective.

Are you saying that you deliberately use the Fn+Z mode, and that this mode itself is faulty? I've never used it, and it may be that few other people do.

(I can't test right now, as my Poker II is at the office.)

no, i never even press fn+z, it seems that likes to toggle on and off by itself when i press other keys
more importantly i'm not able to turn it off, i have to restart the pc

Based on what I wrote on the wiki, Fn+Z enables shift lock mode, that is, the shift key latches just as caps lock does. This causes the Windows key LED to illuminate — you might not see this if yours isn't backlit (mine is green backlit but the Windows key has a white LED for Fn+Z mode).

First question: does the LED come on? (if it's not backlit, the LED may still be present)

Second question: does the behaviour match what Fn+Z should be providing, i.e. tapping shift makes the shift key appear to be held?

Third question: does the LED extinguish if you press Fn+Z a second time?

I'm not aware of glitches, but right now I'm not clear on the exact behaviour you're seeing and how that matches what the manual says that Fn+Z does.

it varies too much to know, today it locked my altgr, sometimes it just locks shift and there's no way to turn that off, it never seems to mess with the LEDs but today it made the right win light act as capslock

Yeah, it's glitchy. Escape turned into ****ing TAB for me yesterday. Also, when I first got it, it would constantly disconnect itself. I'm glad that somehow fixed itself. I've never had to restart though. I just unplug and replug.

I'm confused as to how it can do so much damage to the operating system that a complete restart is required. Sometimes AutoHotkey gets mixed up and locks Windows down, but that's easy to clear by pressing the key.

Here's the firmware topic:

There only seem to be two files, one offering USB NKRO, and one factory default firmware, but the former RAR file contains three different firmware files. Maybe one of these is a better version than the firmware that you have.
