The plug was like a headphone connector and I never could get anything to recognize it.

This particular one is Alps SKFS, not integrated domes: http://deskthority.net/wiki/Alps_SKFR/SKFS

Same kind of switch as in the Apple Adjustable keyboard (though the ones in the Apple board have extra lube to reduce the click sound, or something). Personally I’m not a big fan.
