I keep thinking about building one of those myself. But I would not do the keys just the housing. I was thinking of walnut for the wood but I have to admit that ebony one really looks good.

Aesthetically they look astounding. Unfortunately I've never been a fan of non-scooped keys :(

How about the rosewood one, and have hand-scooped keys?

Considering the resonant quality of the various woods (some are tonewoods), I am very much curious as to how these all sound.

Some of these would be awesome with blank scooped keys. Nothing but wood - no etching to break the look of the grain.

How about a Rosewood board, but with Ebony keys (either this type or truly black Gabon Ebony - or a mixture grouped by location/function)?

Or Rosewood board with something they don't offer like chocolate brown true Lignum Vitae heartwood for the keys. Neither would need a finish as there is so much oil in them - just polish them to a glossy sheen, and the Lignum being the densest, heaviest wood in the world would last a VERY long time.

Hmmmm - time to get that table saw and router, me thinks.
No matter where you go, there you are...

I think they kind of cry out for a screwed-down polished brass plate framing some Lock LEDs, maybe in the form of some jeweled lamps like old guitar amps had.

There's wood, and then there's Steampunk.

Bwahahahaahaa!
That's just what I was thinking!

These are beautiful, no doubt... but I can imagine if you add just a tad bit of board chow and some finger oils you could probably start a new family of moss or mushrooms.

chia board =P
