Key cap replacement Logitech K270
« on: Sun, 19 July 2015, 17:21:51 »
I need to get replacement key caps for my Logitech K270 I need the E, F, N, H and Y keys i would hope they would be less than £15-25GBP
They need to fit an English ANSI (i think).
Else please recommend me a keyboard with soft press keys and a backlight... One that i can get replacement caps with ease. It needs to stand a bit of anger  ; )
Thanks in advance.

I see quite a few of those at Goodwills and other 2nd hand stores. You can probably pick one up there and harvest the keys. Other than that, I see that you are new here, you can try going to a local store and trying out their mechanical keyboards.

Best Buy primarily has the Logitech mechanical keyboards in cherry mx red, brown and romer G. That should be a good starting point for you to figure out key feel. You can also try checking out Fry's Electronics. They have some of the same selection and a few other brands with black switches.

If you are unfamiliar with cherry mx, do a google search and you should find a deskthority link with all of them explained.

I do live in the UK so finding computer parts in Charity shops (E.g) is not common. Also we don't have Best buy around here... But i get what you are saying, Buy a spare and harvest what i need... The problem is these boards here are £49.99 New and quite hard to find elsewhere... i am looking at the Logitech G910 Orion Spark and the Razer Blackwidow Chroma im not sure what to go for (Price is not an issue) im not going to bother buying a new one of The K270s because they are NOT replacable with ease.

The Orion Spark comes with Romer G switches which is a very new player to the game. No keycaps other than what comes stock on the keyboard are available.

The Razer on the other hand uses cherry mx compatible switches, and therefore you have more choices when it comes to replacements.

Here's a quick description of Cherry switches that I have played around with. There are other switches around such as Topre and ALPS, but that's a discussion for another time =)

Linear
Cherry MX Red
Cherry MX Black

Tactile
Cherry MX Brown
Cherry MX Clear

Tactile and Clicky
Cherry MX Blue
Cherry MX Green

Generally speaking, tactile for typing, and linear for gaming with the cherry mx browns being a good middle ground. However that is super subjective, only you can decide for yourself. The Razer switches seem to be a copy of a Cherry MX Blue from what I have experienced.

Im not sure, if the switches and caps on the G910 last a while then it will be fine, Sooner or later Third party caps will come out for the G910... it also looks quite well made, if Romer switches are easy to press like Dome switches then i might get them. Else i will get a board with MX Red (I went and had a look at a few boards with MX switches and i think Red is the best for me)

Unfortunately the logitech keycaps on their mechanicals don't last long. You can do a Google search and see quite a few examples.

Even your basic ABS plastic keycaps seem to be better.

If anything i use it for a few hours every day,i don't push hard and i try not to smash my boards when i get angry... The K270 im using right now has survived so well, Till i started to pull keys off it in anger on Agar.io after getting Splitkilled :'(. I need a new board soon as this one is a year old. Also if im going to buy a new board im going to buy a new mouse and the Logitech G303 Daedalus i have ordered and it will arrive soon. So if it lasts its warranty time and the key breaks Logitech will Replace/Fix the key.
