Unicomp Keyboard Presses the "o" key twice for every keypress
« on: Tue, 20 January 2015, 22:24:17 »
I used an AHK script to hopefully fix most of the problems I've been having, but there still may be typos (either 2 OO's, or 0 o's). Anyway, I have a Unicomp Classic 101 USB. It's been working fine, but recently I've been having a problem where when I type the letter Oo, it sends 2 letter o's. It seems that when I push the key down, it types one o, and when I lift the key up, it types anoother. I've already contacted Unicomp support, but they want $30 to fix it, which seems a bit much. And yes, I've reseated the key. If anybody has any low-no cost suggestions, don't hesitate too post.

I'd be hard pressed to find another hardware company that would only ask for $30 for any kind of repair work.

Granted, if you haven't had it that long it should be covered under some sort of warranty (hopefully).

Looks like they offer a 1 year warranty:

Quote
US Warranty
Unicomp warrants that the product is manufactured from new, or new and reconditioned parts that perform like new parts; is defect free in workmanship and materials; conforms to Unicomp’s operating specifications and is in good working order. The warranty period is twelve months from date of original purchase. The warranty is fully transferable during the warranty period.

Unscrew it and see if there are some misalignment of hammer. Or, maybe, there are some conductive dirt on it...

It beats paying 30 bucks and it could just work.

You could try removing the keys entirely and using a vacuum with a brush attachment to get all loose debris out.  Then replacing the keys back on, and checking if that works.  Maybe it's just that.

If Unicomp was aware of the issue while it was still under warranty, they may still have to honor it.  There are probably details I am missing, but I have had friends take advantage of that with their cars that had legitimate issues.

Okay, dude, I have to know if you were making an intentional joke there, or if it was just a lucky coincidence.
