Noppoo keyboard naming conventions
« on: Wed, 27 May 2015, 11:04:35 »
Just got a Massdrop email about the Noppoo Lolita Spyder Rainbow LED keyboards.  So let's analyze the name of this keyboard here.  "Rainbow" is understandable, considering the multicolored LEDs.  I also think of LGBT flags, Hawaii, and the Wizard of Oz when I see the word rainbow.  "Spyder" is an edgy alternative spelling of that dark and mysterious arachnid, chosen to promote the cool edginess of the product, but also invokes the name of the Porsche and every unoriginal company ever that decided to use this alternative spelling of spider.  And "Lolita" is a name synonymous with pedophilia, thanks to the famous Vladimir Nabokov novel and Stanley Kubrick movie.

In conclusion, we have a keyboard that could be mistaken for a gay Hawaiian pedophile dressed as Dorothy that drives a Porsche.

In addition we have the Noppoo Choc Mini, a name that makes me want to eat miniature chocolate bars rather than buy a keyboard.

Noppoo also is a responsible for the Royal Kludge keyboard brand (I think), which is a name that basically means a grand engineering failure.

Anything else?

Either somebody at Noppoo as a great sense of humor, or most of their market is non-English speaking and they don't care how their keyboard names translate into English.  Overall, I recommend they hire a native English speaker to improve their naming conventions, or just keep pumping out these entertaining gems.

We must go deeper.  Noppoo is just the words "no poo" said by someone with a  stutter.  Does the creator of the brand frequently get constipated and have a hard time with their speech?

I wasn't even going to get started with the brand name.

Hey, it's memorable. By caring about their names, and starting this thread, you're essentially giving them what they want. People are talking about their boards.

For example, if Noppoo named their boards by the number of keys on them, this thread wouldn't exist, and we wouldn't be talking about Noppoo in the first place. It's a bit of a risky move to use a name with a slight negative association, but it's a valid marketing strategy.

I must be the only person who learned about the negative connotations of Lolita solely because of the keyboard.

That said, sure the names are goofy but aren't most?

Or maybe, nobody cares about this cept for you.
And you're trying to make other ppl care about what you care about.
Even though nobody cares enough about it.

I bet you could give that Lolita some Majestouch lovin' if you applied the right amount of Realforce to it. Just don't forget your Poker face while you're doing it.

It could be worse. They could name it the Noppoo Mushboard SupremeTM, Carpal Tunnel MaxTM, or FingerMangler UltimateTM. At least "Spyder" and "Lolita" don't have negative keyboard connotations.

They could have called it the "My Keyboard".  MY has negative connotations for enthusiasts, but just sounds like that infantile "my this, my that" naming you used to see on every customizable product and service on the market.

The SlimFit for the US market

Honestly do a double take every time I see a skinny girl these days.  Indiana has a 31% obesity rate.  Maybe I should leave what I like to call "The Pork Belt."
