I'm Margo Baggins
« on: Thu, 15 January 2015, 03:55:17 »
Hello Geekhack,

I am feeling quite awful at the minute and I need to apologise to some members on here because I need to get a bunch of stuff off my chest. I've had some peoples stuff for way too long.

Proc31 - Your board is done, I will post it v. soon, I've been working like a mad man and I keep being out and about longer than the post office is open, It's boxed and ready to go so I will ship it soon. I will cover your return postage and will refund the monies you sent me.

Epzy - I am honestly about half way through with your stuff, I expect to finish it soon - Thank you so much for being sound about it, but I think it's important you know - I genuinely feel awful that I haven't got it finished and back out to you yet. My schedule is starting to open up so I will crack on with it.

B7ad - Your stuff is about as far along as Epzy's, and likewise will get it sorted for you quite soon, and back out to you. I'm not going to take any money off you for doing these - but if you could still arrange your courier that would be great, I'll send you the address and a date for collection.

Bueller - your stuff has only just arrived, it's a fast job though so as soon as I've done above I will get those posted back to you.

Pasph - I've got all the stuff for your phantom, it arrived last week - so I'll get that fixed up for you when all of the above is done and shipped on to you.

JD40 Crew - I am working my way through the JD40's. I've read around the internet a bit and I realise some of you are disgruntled. I think it's really important you know that I don't get paid for building these keyboards, I'm not getting rich off the lack of the keyboard in your hands - and, if it means anything to you at all - I do genuinely feel really bad that you don't have your keyboards in your hands. The only reason I took on the project was because I love custom boards and I want people to have custom boards.

When all of the above is done - I'm not taking on any more work from anyone (well, except a few) and I will only work for [CTRL]ALT and any projects we do in the future - this means that hopefully future projects I will be able to crank out a lot faster.

I'm not a con man, I have no interest in keeping your stuff or doing a runner as I go a million keyboards of my own which my girlfriend is already pretty unhappy about. No one has suggested that could be the case, but I want to make it clear that I am going to finish and return everyones stuff. I'm also not getting rich off any of this, I don't even really cover my over heads I quite literally do this as I like people using my keyboards.

Hopefully in a few weeks I will back on a level and not be so far beyond. I'm a yes man and I've taken on too much stuff - you've all been very cool about it but it doesn't stop me feeling bad about it. And i promise I absolutely will get it finished and back to you.

I'm currently trying to get a new job, I've had a few interviews this week, so hopefully not working 50+ hours a week is something that is going to happen soon as well.
I got boards.

I think you do so much around here. With your services and with [CTRL]Alt and I just wanted to stop by and thank you. Although I have not gotten my hands on your work, I have been able to appreciate more of your work that has to do with BunnyLake and crew.

So keep up the good work  :thumb:

I didn't know you were feeling so much pressure, man. :(  Here's an e-hug with extra love.  But, seriously, CTRL ALT's got a lot of stuff going on.  I wasn't really fully aware until recently.  I'm sure people can understand and if they can't, well...it's always easy to criticize others when you're not the one in the hot seat.

Margo - As you know, I already knew about the pressure you have found yourself under with all of this work recently. Also as I have told you before, I know what you do is certainly a labour of love and that you obviously have real life commitments on top of the huge amount of keyboard related things you have going on right now. You shouldn't feel bad about any of it. You only have so much time in a week - it takes how long it takes.

Myself and I'm sure all the other guys who have sent you stuff to build, have done it because we recognize that you are incredibly skilled at doing this and don't mind waiting how long it takes you, because we want awesome boards build by you and we all already knew that you are working as hard as you can. I would like to assume the people you mentioned *****ing about the JD40's most likely don't think about/know the real situation involved with how they are getting built. Not entirely sure how they think they are built, but yeah.

I would still like to pay you for building the boards, what you charge is at best a token fee for something that takes so much skill and time to produce as it is.

Sure I'm excited to get my stuff, but bottom line - I am happy to wait how long it takes for the ability to have my keyboards built by yourself. Please don't stress over it man!  :-*

Everyone who has been here for a while knows you are not a conman. Your biggest flaw might be your inability to say no. ;)
Just work through your backlog and learn from it.

Just like b7ad I have had the pleasure to see your work firsthand and see the quality and time you have put in there.
I still think the old mantra "if you are good at something never do it for free" still applies here and you should at the very least not make a loss on our projects. Then again, that might be my business sense talking. :P

Good luck Bro.

I asked Margo to do some work for me last week and he told me of his situation. There is no way I want to add to his workload, as his quality of finish has always been great, and there is no point trying to rush it.

He's got all this stuff to do because he's seriously very good at what he does.

Keep it up dude. Those who will truly appreciate your work will truly appreciate the pressures and workload.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Communication smooths so many paths.

Good luck with the job hunting :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Well that was a waste of time. Nearly 6 months waiting on my board and after trying to put caps on it last night I realised the bottom left ctrl is soldered in the wrong position, can't fit my caps on. Awesome.

I'm rubbish at soldering, kind of the reason why I sent it to Margo in the first place. I know it might seem like a small thing to some people but considering how much I've been ****ed around with this board I have completely run out of patience.
