Left hand keyboard
« on: Sat, 06 June 2015, 05:42:46 »
Hi!! I have been wondering of buying a one hand keyboard. My right hand is ****ed approximately since the day I was born and I am 28 by now. I have seen there are several choices but I am never convinced. Any suggestions? Thx

Well, since no one else has posted, I did purchase a left-handed Maltron awhile back. Here is a link to the mini-review with pictures: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=71019.msg1717974#msg1717974

If you don't mind bargain hunting on Ebay, you can sometimes find them for considerably less expensive than new (the single-hand Maltrons tend to go for a lot less than the two-handed variety on Ebay). I'm not sure if this is something you'd want to shell out for, especially without testing one out first, since even on Ebay they tend to be pretty pricy.

Purpose built one handed keyboards do exist but they tend to be super ultra expensive...and I mean like "unless your health insurance is paying the bill, don't even think about it" type expensive.

You might wind up with better value for money just finding a regular keyboard with a sufficiently powerful rebinding/macro/script system that you can assign keys on the right side of the keyboard to key combinations on the left side. Or maybe consider a regular keyboard plus a foot pedal to serve as a modifier. A good "normal" keyboard plus a good foot pedal should still run you a lot less than a one handed Maltron or Matias product.
