Keyboard enthusiast
« on: Wed, 17 June 2015, 08:50:48 »
Hi folks!

I am a French medical student and a keyboard enthusiast since a few months.
I fell in love with the G80-1800 layout and Model M.
The beginning of a long illness and modern medicine does unfortunately not seem able to stop it...

Hey there,

Welcome to GH  :)
I'm also in France, love my Model M but still looking to get my hands on a 1800 (with Windows key).
So are you more of an AZERTY or QWERTY user? From the last/first Paris keyboard meetup, it seems that about half the people there use QWERTY (I know I do, but I'm not really French  :p)

Thanks for your welcome!
I really appreciate the Raptor you sold me Photekq. Just want to change for vintage blacks when I grow more experience with soldering!
I'm an AZERTY user because I don't code and I 'm too lazy to go to QWERTY currently  :D
Photekq has some NIB Raptor K1 ISO FR (1800 with Windows keys, 6KRO and a USB hub) if you need!

Welcome to the azerty masterrace.

FYI Azerty seems to be more efficient for coding. Interesting read :

Enlightening!
I think I'll start a collection of ISO FR keyboards only because it is my "natural" layout and I do not have the benefit of move on for now.

Just wondering, how did you get those nice keyboard images in your post signature?

Edit: NVM, I found it in the simple questions, simple answers thread.

Welcome to Geekhack!

There's so many slightly different variations on keyboard layouts - qwerty, qwertz, azerty just to name 3!

I suspect one reason people opt for qwerty is that it is a more standard layout, and there are probably more replacement key sets in the qwerty layout.  With azerty you'd end up with mismatched key profile on some rows.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
