Customizing IBM Model F 122 key layout (Ideas welcome)
« on: Wed, 17 June 2015, 04:48:26 »
So I've been wondering how to make use of all the keys in one of these 122 key keyboards. Here is my current layout:

So what do you guys think?

I love the 2nd set of function keys on the left, so I replicate those. I don't use F10 anyway so that is re-mapped to be my Windows key.

The upper F1-F12 is the same, F13 is the 2nd Escape (since most of us are accustomed to looking for it at upper left) and F14 is my Calculator.

F15-F19 have not been assigned yet, F20 = Print Screen, F21 = (audio) Pause, F22 = volume down, F23 = volume up, and F24 = Mute.

Arrows and cluster above it are ANSI-standard, with center arrow being a 2nd down (for consistency with "inverted T").

Numpad is ANSI-standard with the exception of upper left being Escape, as it was in the old days. There is no need for NumLock at all, so I eliminated it.

Do you feel the breeze? I don't want anybody going on me. We need every voter. I don't care about you. I just want your vote. I don't care."

If you have guts and a lot of time, you could try turning this into an F127. That will REALLY make use of all the keys.

I've already tried this stunt on an SSK, and it worked. But I have never worked up the courage to attack a Model F 122. The XTs were hell enough.
Most of the modding can be done on your own once you break through the psychological barriers.
