Truly Ergonomic 207 key keycaps
« on: Sat, 04 July 2015, 04:08:05 »
Hi Everyone,

Good to see that your forum is back.

I'm just wondering if anyone can help me identify appropriate keycaps for my Truly Ergonomic keyboards?

I've settled on a key layout that I am reasonably happy with but the printed keys now mostly lie. The main layout switches are on the main keys as I have switched to a Dvorak layout. Unfortunately the people at Truly Ergonomic keyboards make a practice at being uncontactable and don't provide a Dvorak layout anyway.

I measured QWERTY through to NM<>" keys - Row 1 to Row 4 on cherry MX layout - and they look like they match the Cherry OEM keys detailed here, but anyone knows for sure that would be a great help:

I have also switched the left [alt] key with the left [ctrl] key and made the [ctrl] now at the bottom left a [esc]. I am less sure how these keys fit with the cherry keys. I tried removing them and comparing them to each other and they looked to be the same but when I swapped them they didn't seem to sit correctly so I moved them back.

I have also taken the [¨´] key on the top left - left of tilda - and made it a [del] and taken the far top left [esc] key - to the left of the function keys - and made it the [menu] key. Again I am not entirely sure how these fit into the cherry key standards.

There is also one change to the custom shaped keys in the middle [tab] is now [-_] and [del] is now [tab]. I have no idea how I could do anything for these short of 3D printing my own.

WASD let you select your own print which is good but means that I am also trying to find a font that matches the one on my keyboards (as can be seen on my first link). I am going to have to match it as best I can as I am going to have to mix and match my existing keys with any new ones I order. The closest font I have found is a slightly bolded Tahoma which in the correct versions looks correct for most keys including the I with top and bottom bars but which doesn't have the dropped and raised middle in the M and W letters or the straight bar across the Q that goes over the circle. Any thoughts on this again are appreciated.

The Truly also has letters printed on the vertical front of some of the keys were the numeric keypad is; overlapping the keys where the right hand sits. I have checked with WASD and they do not do this.

That was a bit hard to follow.  Are you asking:

"Is there a place to get replacement keys with appropriate legends, now that I have changed the layout on my TEK?"

Hi VoteForDavid,

Yes, I am looking to identify appropriate keycaps for my Truly Ergonomic 207 which I can add markings on to match my layout.

To make things clearer, here are the keys (highligted) that I need to replace with my own layout:

So as I see it I need to identify the following:

1) Are the keys on the Truly Ergonomic "normal" cherry OEM keycaps?
2) If so, what positions and sizes on the cherry range match the keys that I want to replace?
3) As a bonus if anyone can help me identify the font used on the Original keyboard better than "like Tahoma" that would be awesome.
4) As a further bonus, any ideas on sticking / printing something on the front of the keys then that would be awesome.
5) Final uber bonus, anyone able to think how to do replacing the "Del" and "Tab" keys with the new ones would be amazing - (I was vaguely wondering about 3D printing them or scraping the existing marking off and replacing them).

I can't speak to the normalcy of the TEK's 1U keys, but it would surprise me if they aren't standard Cherry profile.

really just posting to say http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=keyboard+legend+stickers&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.Xkeyboard+stickers.TRS0&_nkw=keyboard+stickers&_sacat=0
