Frogpad2
« on: Wed, 11 June 2014, 22:50:06 »
Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone from here was seriously considering a frogpad2? http://www.frogpad2.com/

Just a thought but,  it seems that this keyboard would be perfect for a lot of spreadsheet style data entry and manipulation as it would allow you to keep one hand permanently on the mouse. Not sure about any other uses...

It looks like there is another one handed keybord here: http://www.matias.ca/halfkeyboard/index.php?refID=7 and they state that the max recorded speed is 63wpm. Perhaps that is the reason why they are not hugely popular.

Anyone here use these sorts of devices on a regular basis?

If you are interested in try the halfkeyboard concept it could be implemented using AutoHotkey in any keyboard. The other is an entirely different keyboard. Let us know if you try it how your experience was.

Yeah, I currently have a HHKB Pro, so no numpad.

I figured that something like the frogpad might be more useful than one of the numpads like https://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=leopold,tenkeypads I guess you are looking at a $150 difference though. I might give the frogpad a go when it is released wait and see.

What I use is a left hand ergodox half on the left with the mouse on the right.

If I need to do numbers and data entry, I'll eventually convert and plug in one of my IBM 50-key matrix model F's.

I bought a frogpad lefty and put some serious time on it when I was forced to do some diagramming and other mouse-driven torture.  It was better than moving my right hand on-and-off the keyboard and mouse.  If I could get Cherry Browns or Topres on one, I'd probably stick with it.  but it has the old, flat, chicklet keys that make me sad.

But, I've gone back to emacs and my two-handed Realforces and Leopolds, and stay off the mouse by using procedural graphics with Tikz and Graphviz and Dot as much as humanly possible.  I'll probably never leave that world.
