Damaged SSK Membrane
« on: Fri, 17 July 2015, 19:38:13 »
Hey geekhack, I have this SSK membrane that has a dent in one of the pads causing it to be continuously pressed down seen in this picture:

I believe the SSK came with the foam on the bottom which caused this, however I'm not too sure what caused it exactly. Fixing the foam did not help either. Luckily the SSK has a bolt mod so opening and closing it is relatively easy.

If anyone has experience with this sort of issue, please do help; I really want to use this SSK.

Have you tried using a tack hammer to flatten out the bump?  You could do this by setting the membrane on a hard, flat surface, and using a pad to cover the membrane sheet.  Just tap, (not pound) until the bump flattens out.  This may save you from having to replace that membrane with a new one.

Edit: I attached a picture of a typical 5oz. tack hammer.

wat. I was not aware of this, thank you. Anyways if there's a way to repair the original membrane, that would be good as well.

oh, lame. I just assumed since they asked for part no.
the hammering out should work, it just has to have a gap between the 2 membranes when the key isn't pressed.

Another person you may want to talk to is Maxx at Phosphorglow.net.  I believe he has his own custom membranes for SSK's.  Send him a message where it says "Contact Me!" on the site.

I believe he's asked (according to his classifieds thread) and no luck on getting a response.

Using a small hammer did not help at all; the keyboard arrived to me incorrectly assembled (I doubt it was Cindy's fault at all) and since it was sitting in a warehouse, the dent has probably been held down for a while. Hopefully phosphorglow responds soon.

Aww.  Yes, Maxx is very good at responding.  Sometimes, he's not home for a day or two as well.  He will get back to you.

yeah, sometimes it takes him a bit to respond, but once he does you could basically carry out a instant messenger convo with him over email.
