Good left handed (or ambi) trackball?
« on: Thu, 08 October 2009, 13:40:53 »
Hi all! Long time listener, first time caller :)
(In fact, I'm typing this on a Filco Majestouch - thanks for the heads up!)

I'm naturally left handed, but I've been mousing with my right for years now (mainly with various Microsoft Intellimice).
After a recent bout of tendonitis in my right wrist I've decided to shift some of my mousing onto the left hand...

I've got a Logitech Trackman Cordless Wheel which I find "decent" (but right handed of course) if a little big - my hands are medium/smallish (I'm a guy).
I've also tried a Logitech Cordless Trackman Optical - TOO BIG!

The trackballs I'm currently considering (available locally - I'm in europe) are:

- Logitech Marble Mouse
- Kensington Orbit Optical Trackball [cheap, but only two buttons and no scrolling - meh..]
- Kensington Expert Mouse [costs 150 USD here!]

I've seen people mention the CST L-Trak and other "specialty" trackballs - Are they good enough to warrant international shipping charges etc. ? :)

Any opinions much appreciated!

I'm a lefty and I like my Kensington Expert Mouse Pro.  Granted, it's not in production anymore, but any of the big trackballs with an equal number of buttons on both sides should do well.  There's a newer Kensington in this line that's got a ring around the mouse ball that apparently works as a scroll wheel, which would be much more convenient than the one on mine.

At work I use a smaller Kensington two-button trackball that I like, but I wish I hadn't spilled soda on/in it because it sticks.

My trackball at home is probably one of the last roller-activated models, while the one at work is an early optical.

Don't bother with a wireless trackball either.  You don't move it around so it's not really worthwhile.

Dang that old Kensington goes for big bucks on Ebay.  This one went for $200.

Holy crap...  It wasn't exactly cheap when I bought it in the first place ($99 if memory serves) but this just might be the first time I've heard of something actually appreciating like this.

I guess I'll be nicer to my trackball...
