I'm new to GH, but not Mechanicals.
« on: Sun, 16 August 2015, 19:25:44 »
I've always heard of this place but I really never checked it out until now because I've always had enough content from r/mk. But now I think i'm going to need the resources that GH has to possibly make my own keyboard soon™.

I currently own:
  • CM Storm Quickfire XT w/MX Brown
  • KUL ES-87 w/MX Clear
  • KBP V60 w/MX White
  • Unicomp Space Saver w/Buckling Springs
  • Noppoo Lolita Spyder w/Kailh Blue
  • CM Storm Novatouch w/ 45g Topre

Anyways I hope you guys will allow me to join in this wallet draining hobby.
KUL ES-87 [MX Clear] || CM Storm Novatouch TKL Suppressed [45g Topre] || HHKB Pro 2 Suppressed[45g Torpre] || KBP V60 [MX White] || Noppoo Lolita Spyder [Kailh Blue] || Unicomp Space Saver [Buckling Spring] || CM Storm Quickfire XT [MX Brown]

Welcome!

Trust me this place will drain your wallet super fast. Been here under a month and I spent tons on boards and keycaps already.
Please feed my addiction.

Welcome to Geekhack!

A nice collection of keyboards you already have, with a wide range of switches :)

Which keyboard are you planning to make?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Welcome to GH. You can find here and on Deskthority (DT) plenty of information on building and modifying keyboards of all kinds, including building from scratch or from kits. It is good that you are starting out with a fairly wide base of different switch types and keyboard form factors to help narrow down the kind of build you are thinking about.
