CM Storm QuickFire Ultimate or CM Storm Trigger Z
« on: Mon, 17 August 2015, 19:25:37 »
Hi to all. My first post here. I need some help badly. This will be my first mechanical keyboard but I can not choose between these two models from CM. Both are with brown switches. And both cost the same where I live. I mostly game, but type as well so I think browns are ok for the first buy. Apart from macros, software support and wrist rest, which are the differences between the two like overall build quality (OEM) etc. Which do you think I should buy and why? Thank you all in advance  :thumb:

I'd go with Trigger, because of compatibility with aftermarket keycap sets (see 1.25x modifiers around the spacebar).

Thanks davkol. Do you maybe know are OEM's the same for both keyboards? I saw that trigger z are made by Costar but I'm not sure about QF Ultimate. Is there any major difference between the two? This is my main problem because I can not find any comparison head to head. Thanks again.

QF Utimate/Pro is made by iOne, but quality is supposedly quite good.
Original Trigger was Costar, but with Cherry stabs, because of backlight compatibility at the time, and I suppose it's the same on Trigger Z.

I'd say the main difference is keycap compatibility, unless you particularly care about the extra features/gimmicks.

:thumb: I don't really care about macros etc. Sure, it's nice addition but I'm more for build quality. And yeah, qf ultimate comes with red backlit and trigger z with white here in my country so because of that I'm little more towards qf ultimate (red theme but not a deal breaker). So, if you think that the build quality is the same, I think I would go with ultimate..

As I wrote, I'd go with Trigger because of keycaps. Thicker replacement keycaps vastly improve typing experience; PBT/POM don't wear out nearly as fast as usual ABS, when exposed to sweat; there are some aftermarket sets, that look good too. But if you don't care about any of that, then pick anything.

Another option might be CM Storm QF XTi, that should enter the market soon. It's a Costar keyboard and I think it essentially replaces the QF Ultimate.

Ok davkol, thanks for your help. I'll think a bit more about it.
