Newish - New HHKB
« on: Thu, 10 September 2015, 23:37:42 »
Hey guys! I need some help. I just got a brand new HHKB. I bought some Topre to MX Sliders and went to put them in, but decided not to after opening the case. So here I am, going to put the case back together... But it keeps bending like it's not fitting together correctly on the left side of the keyboard. It didn't look like that when I got it... So what am I doing wrong?! I don't want to damage it, so I've taken the main 3 screws back out to relieve the stress. Can anyone help me?

Alright, nevermind. You guys won't believe how stupid this was... The magnet that goes around the wires that attach the PCB to the controller? It was in a spot where when I would try to close it, it would rest on top of the nearest screw...and make it stick out too far. Wow, do I feel dumb...

Yeah I had this problem too yesterday. My problem was that I forgot that the controller sits in that spot below that little tab.

I didn't know about that and tried to screw it on top of that so my case wouldn't close.
Please feed my addiction.

Yup. Whoops! Haha I'm glad I didn't mess anything up...it took 2 weeks to get here - FedEx royally screwed up (not surprising).

Welcome to Geekhack!

Glad you found the solution, and thanks for posting it.

What made you decide not to put the sliders in?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
