Hello ~ I'm new here!
« on: Fri, 25 September 2015, 01:06:41 »
Hi guys, been using this website a little as a non-registered user but I decided I'd pop my face up to purchase some artisan keycaps and to take part in an active community dedicated to something I really enjoy! I've been using mechanical keyboards for quite some time now (Model-M from 2005-2013, Razer Blackwidow from 2013-2015, and now I use a Vortex Pok3r). I really love Cherry MX Blues, but I'm thinking about trying out clears soon.

I work as a Traffic Engineer (mainly drafting and browsing reddit), and I like to play Magic: The Gathering and Final Fantasy XIV in my spare time. I'm also from Australia, which makes obtaining most things from here or to do with this hobby a pain in the backside.

Look forward to speaking to you all.
Ben. :)

Welcome to Geekhack!

Yes, difficult to find things here.  There's not many Aussie keyboard shops. PCCaseGear has a reasonable range.  MechKB.com.au also has some harder to find items.

There are one or two other places that sell mechanical keyboards, but not usually as a main stock item.

Btw if you liked the buckling springs, you might like MX greens.  Kinda like MX blues, but with stiffer springs.

Clears are also great, I love typing on my CODE with MX clears.

Oh, nearly forgot - Massdrop can offer reasonable shipping prices on most keyboard-related items, and if enough people buy into the drop then the price can start to appear quite good too.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
