Cherry "Silenced" Red/Black switches
« on: Thu, 01 October 2015, 22:43:41 »
From taking a look at Cherry's homepage, I saw that they have some special silenced red/black switches. Here's a link to the Black switches. I took a quick search and didn't find anything, sorry if I'm late to the race.

Your link doesn't work for me.

From what I know of the US market, the only company that has the Cherry MX "Silent" switches is the Corsair STRAFE RGB.

This keyboard isn't out yet, it ships from Amazon in 2 days on Oct 4th. Maybe some other retailers are already shipping though.

According to Corsair's website, these Silent switches are "Exclusive". I don't know if that means they made a deal with Cherry so no one else can have them for a certain period of time, or if they bought the first batch so no one else can get them right now.

Anybody know of any other keyboards that will be getting the Cherry MX Silent treatment?

I found an English product page that gives the following info-

Noise optimised MX-RGB keyswitch version optimised for use with SMD LEDs (RGB or single colour)

The only solution from a single source: patented (patent pending) noise reduction with integrated 2-component stem and worldwide unique Gold Crosspoint contact technology
Minimises bottom-out and top out noise.

I think this would be a better solution than the GMK clips as you can plate mount these. Though I wonder if it would be overkill if you found PCB mounted silent cherry mx switches and then put the GMK clip on haha!

IIRC, corsair had the exclusive for the RGB cherry switches, so it might be referring to that instead of the silent aspect.

The exclusivity deal for the RGB switches has expired.
The current exclusivity deal is for the actual design of the silencing mechanism.
