Any thoughts on the Romer-G switch?

Anyone tried the new proprietary Romer-G switch? I hear ithey're supposed to feel rather like MX Browns, but with a shallower actuation force.

There are a couple threads on here that talk about them. I don't think many people have tried them. I personally have not.

Try using the search on the right from the home page. From what I remember not many people like them.

I have used Romer-G a few times with a demo G910 at my Best Buy.

As the switches stand, they do not feel like MX Browns. At best they feel like a more resistant rubber dome. I saw a member use the description "like touching a rotten/bruised apple". I would say it's a bit something like this as well.

There is a new ten-keyless board (without numpad) that has these switches, called the G410. It does not have the awful keycaps the g910 does, and a standard bottom row. I would really like to try this model out.

All in all, even a mech with MX Reds (my least favorite switch) are still miles better in my opinion. I only recommend this keyboard if you want a gaming keyboard and nothing else because key mashing was not fatiguing at all. It would work really well in that scenario, but typing at above 80wpm was unpleasant to say the least.

Play few fast pace games in Pax (Battleborn, Raibos Six Siege).
Mushy, no tactile, fast actuate. Nothing like Cherry MX switch. I didn't have enough time to feel if the shape of keycap helps. Short register distance, it's good for game.

Bottom line: When it comes to switches, it's always going to be a matter of personal opinion. Your best bet is to simply go down to best buy, or any electronics store that carries them, and just try it for yourself.


I have been using mine for 6+ months now, and for gaming, I just prefer it to cherry or topre. Again, just my personal opinion. Please try it out for yourself.

Tried them at a best buy, they had short travel and pretty crappy feel. 2/10 would not recommend.

My roommate has the G910, and the switch feels like an MX Brown got modded with a lighter spring then someone decided it should also try to mimic topre. I wouldn't recommend it for typing normally, since it just seems to try to cover multiple niches but not hit the sweet spot in any of them.

I went and tried them at best buy too. Thought they felt not very good. Probably be one of the last choice of switch I would choose for a new keyboard.  Felt awkward.

Tried it in store, was amazed that Logitech spent the resources to develop a switch that felt so... meh. Definitely not what I would want for a typing keyboard, but I guess that's not what it's marketed for.

Agreed. Lines up with my thoughts on Romer-G when I tried it at Microcenter. Much too light for my tastes. Not as terrible as I thought it would be but it might be nice for those who like tactile bumps and light switches. See Bro Caps and personal taste above.

I don't mind the way they feel, but I still wouldn't buy one of these keyboards over any Cherry MX/comparable clone or Topre.

I tried them in a local store and it felt so bad. They felt very rough compared to mx browns. The spacebar is annoyingly loud too. I would not recommend them if you're used to brown mx. Well, I wouldn't recommend them anyway if you're looking for a new keyboard. Just stay away from romer-g switches!

Yesterday I went with a mate to an electronics store because he decided to give mechanical keyboards a shot. We checked out the G910 on display. Both of our reactions were "I guess it's not that different from a rubberdome huh?". Good thing there was a Tesoro with Red clones right next to it so I could quickly show him that it's just Romer-G's before he decided the whole mechanical keyboards thing was blown out of proportion.

In the end he decided to take a step back and think his purchase through, but all of the boards he's considering are Blues or Blue clones. I hope his GF won't mind the noise.

I really like it. I like the short travel. I like the bump at the very top. I like the solid bottoming. I like the slightly gritty travel.

Basically I like all the things people here don't like about. Being more similar to the characteristics of rubberdome doesn't make it inferior. It's all about how your fingers actually feel and your personal belief.

I was considering buying one as a dedicated gaming keyboard, but if they're that gritty and similar to rubber domes, no thanks. My Cherry MX Browns still serve me well enough, but you guys know how it is. Once you've been bit by the mech bug, you can't get enough.

I like them.  Soft to type on which was great for me given my tendency for bottoming out.  I'd be interested in getting a board with them if Logitech ever made something other than the G910.  Those keycaps are horrid.
