Corsair k70 RGB mods
« on: Mon, 02 November 2015, 14:53:37 »
Hello! I recently decided to change my k70 (with mx browns) keycaps, it was a hard job because of the non standard bottom row. Now after 6 months of the date of purchase I decided to pull the trigger. I had to order from three different vendors: maxkeyboards (the two controls), shapeways 3D printed 6.5 spacebar and wasdkeyboards (my custom color desing) all the other keys. It was quite hard actually to find an ISO swedish layout set (in finland we use the same). I had to spend A Lot of money to make this happen, it cost me about 100€ for just a bunch of keycaps and o rings  ;D. This message is going to be a short one because I already made a post but my login timeout kicked me out so I lost my whole writing (apologies for that). All in all it was worth it the keys are sooooo muchhhh betterrr than the stock keys, it's a breeze to write with these new ones :P The 3D printed one is a little grainy feeling and a bit heavier than normal keys but it still does the job better than the stock one. The spacebar is a bit curved but it's so little it doesn't even bother me (see pictures). I ordered 0.15mm o rings from ebay for just literally nothing and I highly recommend these ones if you don't want to spend 20 bucks plus shipping just for a buch of o rings. I call this keycap replacement "a mod" because of the bottom row. A lot of people to my knowledge don't buy the corsair k70 rgb because you can't change out the bottom row. I think the upgrade was worth it, now it's a lot better keyboard and the rgb effects still work but in a different sense :D (see video link).
I think a lot people are gonna be interested in the 6.5 spacebar, here's the link: http://www.shapeways.com/product/QX9MR88R8/blank-spacebar-keycap-6-5x?optionId=34431672&li=cart
The cheapo o-rings: http://www.ebay.com/itm/141094361977?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
The k70 is A LOUD keyboard if you bottom out the keys, even with mx browns. The o rings made it sooo nice and quiet and no I don't even bottom out the keys anymore so much which is even better : ) The o rings make the keys feel a bit softer and nicer in a sense, I like them but it probably isn't everyone's cup of tea. Anyway, here are the pictures because nothing is true in the interwebs without pictures am I right ;)

Tell me what do you think about my noob-keyboard-enthusiast mod :D

That is some dedication right there! I like the color scheme you picked out for the caps too. It isn't over the top flashy, but not boring either. Good mix!

That spacebar actually looks very nice. Did not know 3D printed caps could be that good.

I did away with my mainstreem mechs (ie razer corsair ect) bought more of the other brands (vortex, ducky and topre) I just can't handle all of those flashy marking schemes to sell me an overpriced board.
