Putting the feelers out...Albuquerque / Santa Fe area meetup?
« on: Sun, 15 November 2015, 16:19:35 »
Hello, fellow kb aficionados! I have been thinking about this for some time now and I think it's finally time for me to ask: are there are any other clackers in my fabulous town of Albuquerque, New Mexico?

Honestly I'm only expecting to get maybe...one or two replies? I'm also expanding this offer to any folks in Santa Fe, NM because it's only an hour drive from here. I only know of 1 guy here in ABQ and one more up in SF who are actively interested in mech kb's...who knows, there might literally be dozens of us.

I am totally willing to coordinate some kind of a small gathering somewhere that is keyboard friendly where we could meet up, have a couple drinks, and chat about our passion for the finer things in life. If we do end up going through with this, I will also bring my paltry collection of mice and trackballs, as well as some spare sets of keycaps and misc. caps that I would be willing to trade/sell/make available for general fondling purposes. I know of a great little private bar here in ABQ that would be great for something like this. Personally, I'm aiming for no sooner then at least a month from now (I am on crutches currently). So sometime in early or mid December? I wouldn't be against meeting up in Santa Fe if there are more of y'alls up there, but I don't know of a decent spot we could meet up at, offhand.

I only own Cherry MX boards and a single, lonely Apple rubber dome at the moment. I would love to not only have the chance to try out some other types of boards (looking at you, Topre peeps), but meet some fellow enthusiasts too! Let's make this happen!

Thanks for reading!

Being old, 500 miles away, a non-drinker, and someone known for not liking to have fun, take this with a grain of salt, but I think our recent SoCal meet and chill may have drawn a bigger crowd if it were non-drinker friendly. I know of a few who would have liked to come but their ago prevented it. It might be better to have an earlier gathering that would be less limiting with an alcohol venue following later in the day.

This is a very excellent point, thank you. Also keeping in mind that there may even be some under-age folks who want to join. It won't be any more difficult to have a mid-day meet up followed by an alcohol venue later on, exactly as you said.

Perfect!  :D

I don't live anywhere near NM—but wowee, I just love that area.

When I was 18 and driving across the U.S. with a friend for our first professional music gig at Walt Disney World—and I'm not making this up, BTW—we stopped in NM to see Carlsbad Caverns. There was a little town called Whites City just down the road. We went into an old-style saloon there, and I saw they had an upright piano. So my friend got his banjo and we ended up playing there for a couple of hours. People called up their friends and families and a bunch of them came in hear us. Then the guy who (apparently) owned most of the town put us up for the night at his desert villa. Everybody was really nice to us.

I've been back to NM (including SF and Albuquerque) a few times, and I can't think of another place where I'd rather live. Unfortunately my Canadian wife has other ideas about living in the States (something about too many people being armed and dangerous...?). But it's possible I could convince her to let me head down there to see you guys, and I could bring along a few of my less scoff-worthy KBs. And we could, you know, type stuff. Woo. Sure would be fun.

kurplop has a good point regarding the alcohol. We definitely would have had more people had we not had it at the tasting room. Good luck with your meet.

Thank you very much! I am taking that suggestion to heart, however at this point I've had almost zero interest...so, we'll see?

Awesome story! I've heard of Whites City but I've never been down that far south. I've ridden through Carlsbad once or twice on my motorcycle but that's about it. I've lived in ABQ for about 5 years, I moved here from New Jersey. I do really like it here.

At this point, I haven't received any real interest in a meetup, but if you're ever going to be visiting, hit me up!

Hang in there. Some people are slow to respond and others just don't want to be the first. Just keep plugging it  and you should get a response.
