Hi, I'm Misha
« on: Wed, 18 November 2015, 16:18:59 »
Hi everyone! My name is Misha and I'm from the Netherlands. Two weeks ago I didn't have a clue about keyboards but sitting at home with a broken foot makes me a quick learner ;) The basic idea wàs getting an IBM model M and play "Epic Pinball" (haven't touched my high scores since I threw out my old model M!), and now I'm here working out how to bring a 122-key from 1987 to life using Soarer's converter and a Pro Micro

That's great!  Nice to see another Model M come back to life!

Welcome to Geekhack!

I hope your foot heals soon :)

At least you don't kneed feet to type :))

I also am in the process (at least I will be when I start) of restoring a Model M 122.  As well as trying to get hold of a Model F 122.  Good, solid, reliable boards!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I am guessing your avatar is a direct representation to you bringing your keyboard back to life?

Well I've done a number of Frankenbuilds in the past! Even put a motherboard in a '50s radio case once
I was actually thinking of using an '80s IBM or Compaq case for my last build but in the end I couldn't find one, so I gutted an Acer >:D

Welcome!  I've liked every Dutch experience I've had.  Spent 10 days in Amsterdam and another 7 in Den Haage.  Love the Netherlands.  Portland has a direct flight to Frankfurt, so I've been thinking of visiting when I get some free time.

Enjoy clacking!
