replacement keycaps for filco - layout problem ?
« on: Thu, 24 March 2016, 17:27:59 »
Hi,

I bought a second hand filco majestouch 2 a few weeks ago.
Since it had a qwerty layout (and I'm a french azerty user), I ordered at about the same time a set of blank keycaps from qtan/ebay, since everyone here seemed to recommend him (I'm kind of new here, so I followed what seemed to be the general advice).

The keycaps arrived today, and they seem to be lovely, only issue is, it seems one key is missing to have a complete layout. Attached screenshots are a printscreen of my order from qtan, and my keyboard with the missing keycap (it came with 4-5 extra keycaps, but none of them seemed to be of the right size).

So my questions are :
a) Did I do something wrong and I should be able have a full blank layout by using the extra blank key in the screenshot (the one above my keyboard) ? Or is it that they are different Iso layout and the one I have is different from the one I ordered from Qtan ? I'm not super familiar with this, but from what I see from my order, it should have been a similar layout...or did I do something wrong ?

b)If this is a mistake from qtan, what should I do ? Is it worth contacting him/her ? Is he/she responsive to this kind of request ?

c)All in all it's no huge deal since I won't be using that key very much, but at that price range, I'd rather have had a clean layout. Also, I was thinking about trying and sell the filco oem keys as I don't have use for them anyway, and they're as good as new...I have no idea if they're worth anything second hand (if you got any idea, feel free to let me know), but with one missing key, I guess the set would lose part of its appeal/value(and ordering one new key will probably cost me $10 for shipping only - it feels a bit expensive for just...well, one key)

Yeah, if that key was missing, it's a mistake on qtan's part. I would email him and ask if he will send you the missing key. I'm sure he will make it right.

Yeah, +1

qtan's usually pretty good with this, and that missing key should definitely be there.

You could try PMing him here, then give it a couple of days.  You could also try creating a thread in his vendor area.

Thanks. I'll wait a bit longer than I might do that.
