FiiO Amp with 600 Ohm DT990 Premiums?
« on: Thu, 28 January 2016, 00:17:06 »
Well, after finally getting enough cash to get rid of my 2013 Astro A40's which broke on me in terms of the mic not staying in place and falling down, to static in the headphones if the cable gets bumped in any way, i replaced them with a set of lightly used 600 Ohm DT990 Premiums i found off ebay for 210 AUD. (150~ USD). Not bad.

I kept that mixamp my A40's came with, as i love it to death in terms of its feature set. Being a heavy skype user as well as music listener/gamer, I love the fact that i can directly mix my skype audio and game audio together, however the built in amp is not even close to being cable to drive my Beyerdynamics, which i expected. 100% volume is just about a comfortable level of listening, which clearly means theres more to get out of these cans.

I bought a FiiO E17K As i needed something portable and more powerful than my mixamp, however i have a few questions while its in the mail,

1. Is the FiiO good enough to drive my Beyerdynamics Good-Well? I dont need the absolute most powerful thing in the world, as i dont have that much of a budget to get a ODAC, but needed something that could drive 600 Ohm's okay, as well as being able to take these somewhere else if need be.

2. Is it possible to use the 2013 Mixamp to be a pre-amp, or a volume wheel of sorts so i can still use that voice/game mixing feature on it (Or even the dolby 7.1 if those rare cases where i really need it,) or is that simply not possible and the Mixamp will have to go somewhere else?

Cheers.
