a picture from the other side of life
« on: Sun, 06 December 2009, 17:38:38 »

In the last couple months, since joining gkhck, I've spent the following monies on keyboards:

Compaq MX11800 - $22.00
Bunch of Wyse/Apple Keyboards from warehouse (mostly ALPS/black MX) - $15.00
Cherry G80-3000LSCRC-2 - $62.00
Cherry G81-1800HAU (for the keycaps) - $28.00
Cherry G86-6241OEUAGSA - $24.00
IBM XT Model F - $20.00
IBM 1391472 Spacesaver - $80.00

According to my focus keyboard calculator, that's roughly $251.00

And I'm still waiting for my check from the prince of Rhodesia.
Thanks geekhack, you've bestowed upon me a hobby that will surely lead to my downfall, disgrace, and exile.

I'm afraid to add up what I've spent on keyboards since I found geekhack. When you start collecting Topre boards that amount can really start to get BIG. Oh and I still want one of those μTRON boards but man for the price of one of those I can get 2 regular Topre boards.
Keyboards
Topre Capacitive: Realforce 87U, Realforce 86U, HHKB Pro 2, Topre MD01B0, Topre HE0100, Sun Short Type, OEM NEO CS (x2), NISSHO Electronics KB106DE
Buckling Spring: IBM Model M Space Saver (1291472), Unicomp Customizer x 2
Cherry Brown: Filco FKBN87M/EB, Compaq MX11800
Black Alps: ABS M1
Not so great boards Rare Spring over dome OKI, Sun rack keyboard

Trackballs - Trackman Wheel (3), Trackman marble (2)
Keyboards I still want to get - Happy Hacking Keyboard Pro 2 the White version, Realforce 23U number pad in black and maybe white, μTRON ergo board with Topre switches.
Previously owned - SiiG MiniTouch (White Alps), Scorpius M10 (Blue Cherry), IBM Model M13

Yeah, I guess $10+$10shipping isn't bad. It's in good conditon, despite a little bit of yellowing on the keys.

I'm not exactly sure about the $80 I threw down on a spacesaver today. Probably could have found one cheaper. Plus, it's the model with 1-piece keycaps. Oh, well. I just figured hey, if i'm gonna get a model M, might as well get something I've never used before.

Funny thing is, the build date is '87... I didn't know they made blue logo spacesavers with 1-piece keycaps in '87.

hehe I did the same thing, joined geekhack at the beginning of Oct, and have kept a spreadsheet of all related expenses - currently at $344(keyboards, adapters, etc).

I have a feeling I'll break down and get a Cherry blue board very soon. :)

And every time I visit leopold.co.kr, I move that much closer to insanity, and actually think the Realforce is in the realm of affordability.

I'm considering a Deck now for the clear cherries. I know I can't afford it yet, but I consider anyway.....

Thanks geekhack. ;)

At least I feel better about the money I spend on keyboards and keyboard paraphernalia.
i have seen unix admins with john deere trucker hats, and even seen a man in a nascar shirt correct a passerby's klingon.

I'm currently wanting one of those red cherry g80's... I think it's the 3600... there are a few variants. Then again, I still have to buy a filco... and a topre-based 'board.... oh god

So that's how those douchey junk-mail advertisers do it.  I got a "letter" from some guy saying that he and his wife wanted to buy my house.  It looked like a ransom note.

I'm not sure about 1-piece keycaps, but I don't think IBM used the blue logo until '92 or '93... It's possible that the space saver you bought was rebuilt out of different keyboards and that the bottom half of the case (with the label) is older than the upper half and the keycaps.

Thanks. I hope that's not the case though, I wanted an orignial, unmodified board. Even if that is true, it's doubtful that the seller knew about it.

Hey, either way, I can't wait to do sandy/ripster's nuts & bolts mod on it. I might even go all out and make it USB.
