Problem with Filco Minila Air
« on: Sun, 06 March 2016, 02:11:16 »
I like my filco minila air very much, but it has one really big problem. It'll randomly drop it's bluetooth connection with computer every 5 minutes or so, on average. Sometimes it'll just stop working, other times it'll start repeating a random key like "l" until it disconnects or I turn it off. In addition, sometimes when I turn the keyboard on, it acts as if the control/option/command key is pressed down even when it's not. Also, sometimes I can just press any key and it'll turn back on and connect. Other times it won't reconnect this way and I thus have to switch the keyboard off and back on to get it to connect again. Sometimes it won't drop connection for half an hour and other times it drops every two minutes.

I don't have any other bluetooth devices connected when using the keyboard, I'm on a mac (drops on both my os x side and bootcamp windows side), and I've never had bluetooth connection drop with a bluetooth mouse that I have.

Any minila air users have this problem? Anyone know what's going on/is this normal for a bluetooth keyboard? Do I have a defective board? Any help is really appreciated.

It sounds defective but it could be something else. Are there any electronic devices near your keyboard which might cause interference? I doubt there are but you never know. Are all relevant drivers for the keyboard installed? It always seems likely to be the keyboard's fault but you never know.

I don't believe Filco has any software drivers specifically for the keyboard. I do have a lot of electronics hooked up to my computer though: ethernet, a monitor via mini display port, a DAC via usb, and a mouse via usb. Probably just going to return it and try another minila air. If this happens again then I'll look into another bluetooth keyboard.

RMA sounds like a good option

Mmm not much you can do besides customer support. I wouldn't recommend playing with the Bluetooth on the board since it will probably mess it up more. Are you in the warranty period still?

I can't return to amazon anymore as it's been just over a month, but it should still be under warranty. Weird thing is Filco technically doesn't cover its products sold/used outside of Japan? Quoted from Diatec webiste:

"Warranty is valid only when the product is purchased and used in Japan.
If the product is brought outside of Japan, it will void your warranty including paid repairs and after sales service.
When the product is purchased outside Japan via international FILCO authorized distributors or sellers, warranty will be subject to the terms of the local seller.
Paid repairs and after sales service are also responsibility of the local seller."

I suppose I'll just call Amazon and/or Diatec.
