You might want to take a look at the Infinity (
https://www.massdrop.com/buy/infinity-keyboard-kit). I've never used one, but I have an ErgoDox Infinity which was designed by the same person. I've been very happy with it.
I wouldn't call it on-the-fly programability, but it uses open-source firmware that should be even more robust than the Pok3r. It was also updated with LED support, and I believe it also has a clear case option for the kit.
The kit isn't too hard to assemble. All you have to do is solder the switches and LEDs. Then you flash the firmware if you want something other than the standard layout.
Unfortunately, the drop just closed, so it will be some time before you will have the opportunity to purchase it again.
