Clear case with LEDs (Help)
« on: Sat, 05 March 2016, 04:12:38 »
Hello there,

I'm still relatively new around these parts and have seen some keyboards with clear cases and LED lighting. How can I get one of these? Do I have to make it myself? Can I get one that will work with a Pok3r? Any and all info on this is really appreciated! Thank you.

They are custom boards and there's a big aftermarket for them, so you don't necessarily have to do it yourself.

The Pok3r won't have the appropriate LEDs to illuminate the bottom of the case like many of the other custom boards do.

Cool cool, so the reason I like the Pok3r and Poker II is for their on the fly programming and how the layers work on the Pok3r. So follow up question: How much of a pain in the neck would it be to DIY a Pok3r with this kind of case? Or on the flip side is their a board like the Pok3r that I'd be able to use instead?

You might want to take a look at the Infinity (https://www.massdrop.com/buy/infinity-keyboard-kit). I've never used one, but I have an ErgoDox Infinity which was designed by the same person. I've been very happy with it.

I wouldn't call it on-the-fly programability, but it uses open-source firmware that should be even more robust than the Pok3r. It was also updated with LED support, and I believe it also has a clear case option for the kit.

The kit isn't too hard to assemble. All you have to do is solder the switches and LEDs. Then you flash the firmware if you want something other than the standard layout.

Unfortunately, the drop just closed, so it will be some time before you will have the opportunity to purchase it again.

You can also look toward a Winkeyless custom. PM me and I can shoot you a link if one of my builds for a better idea of what you can do.
