Internet Service Provider Thread
« on: Sun, 20 March 2016, 14:40:21 »
I know there is an internet speed thread, but no ISP specific thread so i wanted to make a place to talk about ISP's, complain, make suggestions or whatever. Mainly for the horrible state of the internet here in the US and ISP's like Comcast, charter, Centurylink AT&T etc.... but not limited to it, i know some places like Australia are in a much worse state.

To start off, i'm kind of in a predicament at the moment, i had Charter cable internet with 70 mb down and 4 up for $35 a month, which i know is considered average, but i was happy with it as there were no bandwidth caps, id regularly burn through 1.5 TB's a month.  But after moving to an area a ways outside of Seattle here in Washington in the US, specifically Lacey Washington, im currently stuck with 1 down 1 up through Century Link DSL. Only 40 miles away i could get reasonably priced Gigabit connections through a few companies, but moving again is not an option.

My current potential options are :
1. Deal with he speed now, and somehow do online classes.
2. Pay $30 or so to move up to 15 Down 3 up with Century Link and get something like 8 mb in reality. ( if you go over 350 GB's more than 3 times they terminate your contract )
3. Go with one of the options that Comcast has ( XFINITY, whatever they call there service now ) Either 25 MB down for $30 a month, 50 for $40 or so, or 75 for $ 50 or so. Now i can live with those speed's and prices, but what gets me are there 300 GB caps.... i can forget Netflix or heavy you tube usage, which are impossible with Century Link anyway.

A couple more things to mention, is that it will be used by me, with my desktop phone and laptops, my Younger sister that probably uses just as much bandwidth as most teens probably do, with Facebook you tube Skype etc... , and my grandparents which are pretty light users.

But again the point of this thread isnt just my issues, its for anyone to talk about any of there own ISP related complaints or issues.
