Razer Blackwidow X - Razer's Corsair K75
« on: Sun, 01 May 2016, 13:56:10 »
So Razer released 2 new keyboards, Blackwidow X and Blackwidow X Tournament Edition (Tenkeyles).

The only difference are:

- Exposed plate, kind of like Corsair K75 that the plate is the top casing.
- No more macro keys (I guess no difference on the Tournament Edition).

I know in general geekhack don't care about Razer gear, but personally I haven't had any issue with the Razer stuff I own.

However I do feel like they're a little bit too late, this is what I wanted 3 years ago.  Funny enough the macro key was what's stopping me from buying it before (hate macro keys, always mis press when doing ctrl + c).

At this point I already own 7-8 keyboards and now this just doesn't interest me anymore.

Oh well though it might still sell well anyway though..... lol.

The fact that they're still using their inhouse switches means it's a no for me. Their switches are terribly inconsistent and the clicks aren't as crisp. At this point, corsair has a much better headway over razer in terms of quality keyboards

Do I really need to repeat again and again that the switches aren't the worst part about Razer, because modern Cherries aren't that good either? The overall bad quality and lack of QC compared to others in this price range is Razer's problem.

What are the bad stuff on razer, over the switch? The plastic, the case and the keycaps? Or other things? What is QC? :D
Thanks

I actually kind of miss my first generation BlackWidow. It was a good batch of MX Blues, very consistent and extremely smooth.

I was going to wait for the $60 MX Blue 10kl Blackwidow X but they took too long to release it and I got a Ducky Zero instead. Razer's keyboards are all right, especially at the $60 price point with Cherry switches. Their build quality isn't fantastic when you can get a Ducky Shine 5 or K70 RGB (or a plain K70, when looking at the normal BW) but it's definitely not terrible, especially at lower price points.

Pretty much this. I have a new board with Cherry Browns. They are so incredibly inconsistent it really stopped being funny. I think Gateron is the way to go atm, smoother and they feel more consistent (if within one batch, no info about cross batch consistency) than my Cherries. Really a shame that Cherry got beaten by a clone.

60$ is the new "buget" board they released. It shouldn't cost too much more here in EU.

The plastic is bad, the keycaps get damaged by looking at them in a wrong way, the plate was plastic last time I checked and the electronics and solderjob aren't that good either. The case looks nice if you paint it white and change the backlight from their default green to something more fitting like orange or purple, but that doesn't apply to the BWX since they removed the top.

QC = Quality Check.

It used to be the cheapest mech besides Żalman(PL: żal - regret) around here two years ago, but it got overtaken by a bunch of boards(Natec Genesis RX75, Tesoro Tizona and Durandal, A4Tech B540, QPad MK50 and Ozone Strike Battle). And even if BWX would come here and still be 10$ cheaper(which isn't set in stone because Polish mech prices aren't really related to the US ones), the only one that would fall off that list is the Durandal.
