Keycaps for Thermaltake Poseidon ZX
« on: Sun, 08 May 2016, 01:18:23 »
I got a Thermaltake Poseidon ZX with blue Kahils. I really like the fee of the keyboard and I wanted to upgrade to a better set of keycaps. I found a cool set on Aliexpress and ordered them. Everything fits well except the shift keys, the enter key and the caps lock key. It is not that they are too big or too small. In fact they are all the same size as the originals, but rather the connectors do not quite line up with the switches on the board.

Attached is an image of the box the the keycaps came in ans a shot of the board with the set installed except for the four keys I mentioned that do not fit. I left the old function key caps as well since they have the media indications on them. I will probably swap them later once I better memorize the locations.

The keypcaps are nice double shot PBT and have a great feel and are a big upgrade to the ABS ones that came with the keyboard.. are the switches on this board in no-standard locations or are the new keycaps at fault?

AFIAK the Thermaltake Poseidon is totally standard so it sounds like the keycaps are at fault.  Ordering anything from Aliexpress or similar sites comes with risk though since you never know fully what you will end up with.

Thanks for the reply. That is what I heard. I also have a KUL on the way. Once it arrives I can test the keycaps on it. Meanwhile, the vendor on Aliexpress is looking into it and seems pretty responsive.

Not that the Tt is a bad board...but you are going to adore the KUL.  The build quality is just amazing on those boards,  have had 3 of them and only parted with them due to my moving to 60% size.

I have a set of them caps from probably the same seller. All the keys fit my Ducky Shine 5 perfectly fine. Perhaps it's just a few dodgy keys, not really worth returning though in my opinion. Could ask for a partial refund if you can prove to the seller that those keys are faulty.

As it turns while the Thermaltake Poseidon ZX does have standard keycap sizes, it appears they use nonstandard spacing for the stabilizers, except the spacebar. I figured this out when my KUL arrived and I tested the keycaps in question on it and they fit perfectly. The vendor seems to understand this and says they will send caps to solve the problem.

By the way, I love the KUL, it feels a little more solid than the Thermaltake, but it is close.

The Tt is a great little starter board but between the solid case on the KUL more switch options and swappable top case...along with the fact i trust their soldering work far more than Tt long term....and i know KUL will actually honor their warranty..the KUL will likely last you a lifetime.
