Hi,
I have finally found a Model M for sale in the UK. Yey and thank you! I also live in the UK.
Could you answer these two questions:
What payment method do you use and how will I know it is legitimate?
You mention that there is no spare SDL cable (please excuse my ignorance) but does it come with a functional one and can it be adapted to USB?
I thought I would reply to this since I have bought from Chyros before. I bought a IBM 1391406 (Little older than this one, birthday is 12/10/1990) from Chyros before and it was in great condition. After a little bit of work with the magic sponge and alcohol (and sadly acetone too) the keyboard is looking amazing.
I'll quickly answer your questions:
Answering your first question, me and him used paypal and it was a quick transaction. The great thing (and also a bad thing for sellers) is that you can charge them back if they don't send you a product. You wouldn't need to worry about that because Chyros is quite respected and is also one of the few people I actually had a great experience with. Quick to reply with questions too, so if you do have any questions during to buying stage then you can shoot him a PM and he will be right back
Now answering your second question, it's quite common for people to make their Model M USB compatible because you can buy
Active adapters which will convert PS/2 to USB. The SDL cable should be working, since my one didn't come with the SDL cable (that's why there isn't spares btw, because that one is the only one I think he has for the Model M) so it should be working fine. If not, you can just buy a SDL cable from clickykeyboards.com for £10-15 pounds (I did this
).
I'm pretty sure Chyros will answer your questions in more detail but all I can say is that this is a very rare find and I highly recommend that you buy it. It's worth the money because Model M are amazing and I doubt I will part with mine. Just shoot him a PM if you are interested and I recommend that you do so before it gets sold
