Could use some help with my ADB to USB converter
« on: Sun, 10 July 2016, 16:13:22 »
Hey all

I'm restoring an old AEK II that I bought at the Dutch Keyboard Meetup. I bought a Teensy of Aliexpress, soldered the wires correctly, as far as I can tell, and flashed the TMK adb to usb converter hex to the Teensy. When I plug it in, the three LEDs on the AEKII flash, but that's about it. Nor Windows, nor Mac OS X recognize it as a keyboard. How should I go about debugging this? Below you can find some pictures. Ignore the ugly solder job. When I took the pictures, I had already desoldered the wires a couple times because I thought I did stuff wrong, I'll clean it up when I know they're right for sure. I did test all the connections with a multimeter and they don't short or anything.

Even if the wiring was incorrect, the teensy should appear as a keyboard to a computer. If you bought the teensy of aliexpress, it is possible that you got a fake version. The original version by PJRC has a smaller bootloader than other ATMEGA32U4 boards, so trying to flash a hex for the teensy won't work if it is a fake. Unfortunately I'm not sure how to tell if it is a fake or not. If it is a fake, you may have overwritten and will need to reflash the bootloader.

Ah, that's good to know. I actually bought a couple of Teensy's (to use in other projects too). I'm just gonna try to build the software on another pc and flash to another Teensy.
