Hi, new keyboard enthusiast
« on: Wed, 03 August 2016, 16:51:48 »
I bought my first mechanical keyboard a couple months ago (Ducky Shine 4) and I recently started getting into keycaps and which ones to buy. I am deciding between multiple keycap sets, but hope in the near future to become part of the community here.

A little edit here and wanted to mention that I still have not bought my first set but I have been scouting for a while. Some of the options I considered were the Blank Gateron keycaps, the vortex pbt cherry profile keycaps, the NPKC keycaps from Massdrop, and the blue/white keycaps from GeekKeys, and I have no idea which ones to buy as I want to get PBT for my first set, but do not know which would be the better choice between my options, and it would be great if I got some help.

Varmilo (EnjoyPBT? Leopold?) PBT keycaps are going on sale at mechanicalkeyboards.com sometime between now and August 19th. I thought I would add some complication to your dilemma :thumb:

Welcome!

First, thank you for welcoming me in to the community and second, I hate you for the addition of the fact about the sales  but in all seriousness, thanks for telling me, I did not realize that there was going to be one.

Welcome to Geekhack!

By virtue of having joined and made a post, you now are a member of the community :)

Watch the Massdrop ones closely - they tend to finish a lot quicker than other GBs (depending, of course, on when you look at them). But most Masdrop ones have a week or so total run time.

Other than that, unless you have strict budget restrictions you'll probably end up with a few keycap sets anyway ;)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
