« on: Fri, 29 July 2016, 16:04:46 »
Hi im trying to find a cheap place to buy a sa and dsa set for 60% keyboard in canada they can be any color/ random things like grab bags as long as the row profiles are correct i just don't want to spend over 150 to get a set of one or the other from signature plastics as im not sure if im going to like sa or dsa, any help would be appreciated.

Your best bet is to buy a set used from someone here or over at /r/mech or Deskthority.

Both of the SA sets I own were purchased from previous owners. As were about half of the Granite kits I own.

Now, if you are curious about the DSA profile, you can buy entire sets from SP's webstore for reasonable cost. They usually have a few custom DSA sets of various colorways available, not to mention full sets in dyesub PBT in a handful of colors.

/r/mechmarket, classified or their store is where you should be looking. Not many DSA sets go for more than 150, SA is a bit more expensive but still doable. A grab bag would've been great but now they're being sold for triple or so

Filco doubleshot from keyboardco in the UK is the cheapest I've seen for SA. With the cheapest shipping option IIRC it came under $80US shipped for a full 104 set. I opted for the marginally more expensive shipping option via Royal Mail and it got to me in less than a week on the US west coast.

Otherwise as mentioned, classifieds or mechmarket

These keycaps are such niche items that you won't generally find them just sitting around in some webstore's inventory. You typically have to get in on a group buy or find them for sale, used, by someone who doesn't want theirs anymore.

One problem with the secondary market is that many keysets are priced as collector's items. That will double, triple, or more the price you pay. And anything that is priced reasonably by a fellow member of the community will have many interested buyers; getting your PM to the seller ahead of anyone else can be challenging.

The Filco doubleshot keyset is a cheap option, but only if you have an ISO Costar stabilized keyboard. ANSI USA has been out of stock for months now. The keyboard must be costar because Filco (or PMK/SP i'm not sure) glued the costar inserts into the keycaps :'(
