Choc Mini in 2016? Or something else?
« on: Mon, 01 August 2016, 05:43:52 »
Hello all,

It has been a while since I've posted here. Glad to see this place is still alive and kicking  :)

I felt the urge to go keyboard shopping recently. What I would like is something with:

-Cherry switches (blue or brown, haven't decided yet).
-Compact form factor, but with hardware function row and arrow keys
-PBT dyesubs
-Nothing 'flashy' (I don't like stupid fonts, backlighting, 'gamer' features, stuff like that).

A Choc mini would probably be good- I've owned one before and I did like it. Trouble is, they don't seem to be as common now? I can see one here, but maybe there's a better place to buy from?

Or, maybe there's another board or boards out there that tick all the boxes? I haven't been keeping up with all things keyboards for a while now. I seem to be drawn to all things tenkeyless and smaller. I like boards like the choc mini, and the fc660m (that I'm using now)- I like the small desk footprint whilst still cramming a lot in. I've had a couple of Pokers over the years, and although I really liked them I found them just a little bit too minimal for me.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I guess I'm asking the wrong questions!

As an aside, I'd be happy to try some Gaterons- they sound interesting.

Not many other keyboards I know of that come with PBT caps and MX switches under $100, it's still a good deal in my book.

On the Newegg Marketplace there are versions that come with Gateron switches, you should try those instead, Cherry are too scratchy.

Thanks for the tips, Newegg isn't a bad idea.

I don't mind spending a bit more than $100USD. Maybe up to $150USD including shipping.

I'm actually curious on this as well. I really want a smaller board for work and this is super affordable compared to some other options out there.

I already own one of these. Also, doesn't have the hardware function keys that I'm after.

Edit: I got impatient and ordered one of these:

I went the white one (PBT keycaps) and I thought I'd try something different and get Gateron blacks. Will let you know how it goes  :D
