Cables.
« on: Tue, 09 August 2016, 18:58:53 »
So now I've got this HHKB Pro 2, and I've put the blue and red PFU esc and control keys on it, and I've got a PBT space bar coming from MassDrop and I have THOROUGHLY drunk the Kool Aid. (one of us one of us)

I'm looking to spice up the cable a bit. Previously, I ordered a cable from Mimic, and while the cable was good, it was a) expensive and b) custom. I'm in the US, so Pexon is certainly a less desirable option. Are there any good pre-made sleeved USB to mini cables for the HHKB that can be bought off the shelf? I'm not opposed to buying a custom cable, but for something so mundane as a USB A to mini B cable, it seems kind of silly not to try for the off the shelf route too.

Also - what about making cables? I'm well equipped for soldering, and have been soldering for 20+ years, but I've never tried to make a USB cable. Could I buy the connectors online and just use something like ethernet cable to make them?how hard could it really be?

you can buy bulk usb cable off like lcom or something. It can be fairly inexpensive to make cables. There are many guides online about making cables. Mimic also has ready to go cables for $10.

Icom? I'm not familiar. Searching gives me the radio company. Is that the one?

Have a look here. Even DIY kits/

This is awesome! I just watched some of their YouTube videos, and they seem like good people. I'll be happy to sling some cash their way for a DIY kit. Thanks!

I looked around and didn't find any good options for off-the-shelf mini braided USB cables and just went with Pexxon. MINI is just hard to find retail options for that aren't generic rubber. I also wanted a custom length 7 foot cable. The only problem is that I had to shave off a bit of the plastic mini-USB adapter to fit in my KUL ES-87. Otherwise I am very pleased and now I can enjoy my boards without a noisy, stiff rubber cable bothering me. I thought about DIY, but that seemed like a pain and I would save valuable time just buying one.
