I'm not new here BUT...
« on: Thu, 04 August 2016, 10:02:54 »
It's just been a long time since I posted anything.  I had a Filco 104 key with Cherry MX blue's at my work.  Unfortunately it died due to my fault.  So I was putting along with a standard mushy Lenovo keyboard till I got sick and tired of it.  It would randomly get stuck on a key.  It could be any key including the delete key, so sometimes it would delete an entire email, frustrating to say the least.

So after the final straw, I bought two Filco Ninja Majestouch 2 104 key Cherry MX brown's.  One for work and one for home (had an MS ergo 4000 that I also got tired of).  I'm planning and modding them a little bit.  I bought a keyset of green and blue double shot keys.  I'm planning on using the green one's at work for an Hulk theme keyboard.  I bought the holyOOPS Hulk fist aluminum keycap to finish it off.  For my home I'll be making a Doraemon inspired keyboard due my 5 year old daughter (hey, can't start them too early now).  When I was looking at the Hulk keycap she saw the Doraemon bell keycap and she loved it (especially since we just visited Japan this past April).  So that's where the blue keycaps come into play.  I don't mind and we both love blue.  The only thing was that I ordered two Doraemon keycaps by mistake, so I'm thinking of using the second one in the Num Lock key, should fit, right?

Also, when I received the keyboards this week, my daughter was excited to see them only to put up a frown when she saw they keycaps where black.  But I assured her the blue ones where coming with the Doraemon keycap and she got happy again.  She's on the right path :D

Anyways that's my story of how I got in, got back out and now back in.  Never again will I get stuck with a mushy keyboard.  I'll post pictures when I finish my keyboards.  BTW, is there aluminum base plates for Filco 104's?  I'd love to get some if possible (anodized green and blue).

Oops, forgot to say, I also bought a holyOOPS Stormtrooper aluminum keycap, for a Stormtrooper inspire keyboard (I'll use black an white blank keycaps).  I've also been thinking of making an Avengers theme keyboard, but we'll see about that one.

Welcome to Geekhack!

As weird as that sounds saying it to someone who joined about 18 months before I did :))

A lot has changed since then, eh?

If the Doraemon keycap is the one I'm thinking of, it looks like a standard MX-mount 1x R4 keycap, and so should fit fine on Num Lock.

About the Filco aluminium plate - your best bet would be to ask in the simple questions thread.  Cpt will probably know, and a few others regularly browse that thread.  Lots of interesting info there ...

Thanks rowdy.  Yeah, a lot has changed since I've been here.  The place has gotten a bit more confusing.  I remember how hard some items where hard to get.  But now with so many different key-caps wow, it's hard to take it all in.  I'll check out the thread and make my inquiry there.  Thanks again!

You're definitely not wrong there!

When I joined it was easy - suggest QFR for a low-end good keyboard, Filco for high-end keyboard.

SP made most of the keycap sets, and their thin ABS doubleshots were the best you could get.

Now we have dozens of highly recommended keyboards, GMS keycap sets, JTK as a close rival to GMK, EnjoyPBT keycaps, Royal Kludge keyboards - difficult to know what to recommend any more.

On the other side there are so many more artisans now creating fantastic keycaps, cases, wrist rests cables and almost everything else.

Ok, went into the classified forum, forget it.  That's an entire different language!  I think I'll stay away from there, lol.

It's a language all of it's own :))

Once you hang around the whole forum for a while you pick up most of the acronyms that people like to use.  Fortunately there are few that are ambiguous!
