Filco Majestouch 2 MX Brown - Stratchy/Grinding Keys
« on: Mon, 26 September 2016, 15:53:30 »
Hi All,

I just received my Filco Majestouch 2 MX Brown and it is a great keyboard.
I have one problem though. There are some keys that "grind" it feels like the spring is grinding. The keys that grind feel different that the rest of the keyboard.
I tried googling this and found that Filco keyboards are known to "ping" but I am pretty sure this isn't a pinging issue. From what I understand the ping is a sound that happens when a key is released and the metal back plate vibrates.

But this grinding happens as soon as I press the key and there is grinding through the whole way down and back up.

I was wondering if anyone has this problem and knows how to fix it or should i just try to RMA the keyboard? I was accepted for an RMA but I have to pay for return shipping. I am afraid of getting another keyboard with the same problem.

Thanks

It sounds like the spring is bad, or just really not aligned properly within the housing.  Really easy fix if it's the latter and you have access to a soldering/desoldering iron.  I wouldn't worry about it happening again with a replacement, this kind of issue doesn't seem to come up too frequently.

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

Forgot to mention that about ~10 keys have this stratchy/grinding issue. If this is infrequent then I just got really unlucky with a bad keyboard. :(

Wow, then it would appear Cherry's QC is really slipping. I'd still try for a replacement, I can't imagine it would get worse than what you have now. Filcos are great boards though, so hopefully you'll be enjoying one properly soon! :thumb:

Most keyboard selling companies have this policy where they buyer pays return shipping, and this is understandable because they would go broke from people returning boards they changed their mind about.  This  however may actually be a manufacturering error, in which case you should not be responsible for the return shipping.  If their policy is written in stone then there is not much you can do, but maybe you can speak to somebody at the head of customer service that can make that judgement call for you.
KPB V60 Gateron Browns and Leopold Keycaps.  Poker 3 with Gateron Browns and Poker keycaps.  Poker 3 with Cherry MX Browns, ABS keycaps and white LED's.

Leopold FC660M- my new favorite, right out of the box.

Yea on their website it says even if the product is DOA (dead on arrival) then the buyer pays return shipping, but I'm going to try calling them tomorrow to see if they can do anything for me.
