How tall is to tall?
« on: Mon, 03 October 2016, 21:41:10 »
Hey
so this might be an odd question but I'm working on a project and I'm having a bit of trouble trying to figure out if my keyboard will end up being too tall.
just wondering what peoples thoughts on this are, tall is too tall? how tall are peoples keyboards?
Also, I have no idea what an inch is, metric is appreciated haha XD

Height depends on the design, my Ducky is pretty standard and that is 3.5cm tall at the back with the feet up or 5cm with them down.  Some people like more angle, some like flat, and some ergo people like the front higher than the back... Also if it's tented (middle is taller than the edges) it will be taller overall.

More details required!

P.s. An inch is about 2.5cm

Too tall: my GH-122.  The case including feet is almost 1.5 inches tall.  Just measured it at 35mm.  Add keycaps...

I need to make a wrist rest for it.

It really depends on if it is too tall for you to comfortably type on. I'm making a keyboard that is clearly too tall but I don't care since it is based on a keyboard in an anime.

A wrist rest is probably the best and easiest ways to fix too tall.

Depends on your wristrest as well. I've had co-workers complain about trying to use a mech until I had them type on one while using a wristrest, world of difference.
I typed this post on my Slanck. I also developed a stronger, cleaner, easier handwiring method.

Me.  :))

But in all seriousness, a wrist wrest can solve all problems with height.

A wrist rest properly used will not solve anything.  One should not rest your wrists in the wrist rest while typing.  This has been linked to being a significant contributor to carpal tunnel.  Your wrists should not be touching anything while actually typing.

Being to tall will depend on many factors, mostly being height of desk, height of chair, and your own body size and posture while typing.  Ideally, your wrists should be straight with your firearms when typing, not ripped up or dipped down.. The reason those old beam springs had such steel angles, is becaue the desktop was relatively very high compared to the chair.

although that is true I have never been able to do that with mouse or keyboard and I'm sure most people here also keep their wrists in contact with the desk or wrist rests. So a higher rest would help people get in to a more correct position.

I plan to get smaller spacers for the bottom row first. I have about 1/8 to 3/16 inch to play with, after allowing for the USB connector. But definitely investing in a wrist rest after that.

Interesting.  I keep my F107 at the edge of my desk, so there is nothing for my wrists to wrest on to begin with.  I guess you could say my keyboard height is about 35"...
