Ducky One TKL LED modded; has some issues
« on: Mon, 17 October 2016, 20:09:17 »
Hey everyone, I suppose this is my first ever official post in the forums. Hi!

Back to the main point - I have a Ducky One TKL non-backlit version, and the one who sold me the keyboard told me that there are resistors built-in already. Just need to solder the LEDs in, flash the backlit version's firmware, and it'll work.

And so I did! The entire worklog/guide is here https://nasilemaktech.com/2016/07/23/keyboard-led-mod/

However, the bottom row of the keyboard isn't functioning particularly well when it comes to the LEDs. It just doesn't seem to respond to the LED controller that much.
Even though I have changed the brightness OFF entirely, all the other LEDs are turned off, except the bottom row. On the flip side, when I tried to turn the brightness to the highest, the LEDs isn't as bright as the others.

I did send an email over to Ducky quite some time ago, but failed to get any sort of reply.
Would appreciate if I can get any help here.

Thanks!

Have you tried swapping the polarity of the LEDs on the bottom row?  I don't have my Shine II anymore but I have a vague memory of observing this behavior when I inserted an LED incorrectly.

Good observation. That might be the case, I have to check again some time. Seems to be starting from LCTRL all the way till the right Windows key.

This is a cool project. How was your time desoldering the LEDs? I tried harvesting the switches/LEDs from my Ducky Mini, and it was such a huge pain. It's basically impossible unless you apply heat to the solder joint while pulling the LED through with pliers at the same time.
Mine was different. I got the non-backlit version, but there's already solder on each of the LED holes. I had to use a solder sucker to remove all of the solder first. Took me a good 2 hours (and 2 solder suckers, since the first one broke) to complete the project.
