Leopold FC660M Vs. FC750R
« on: Thu, 20 October 2016, 14:35:21 »
Hey guys, I recently was contemplating the idea of picking up a totally linear board for typing/writing, playing games, and pretty much anything else.  I wanted to give my Type-S a break in the department of writing/grad school stuff (and wanted some dedicated arrows for playing things).

So, initially, I really wanted some vintage blacks, lubed.  But I realize I'm not quite that level of keyboard enthusiast and that I probably don't deserve it.  That, and I'd probably have to pay big or salvage my own and build it from the ground-up, which I have never done and don't have the time for.

So, with that in mind , I was thinking of smooth switches that are maybe lighter, namely mx reds.  I'm looking at both the FC750R (the white one, I really like the side-printed PBT caps) and the FC660M (Also white, the HHKB has really sold me on small-form-factor keyboards).  I've been watching typing videos and the sound on this particular video sold me on a Leopold with reds:

So, anyone with experience with one or both of these boards, what are your thoughts?  Would you recommend one or the other comparison-wise, or something else based on what I am looking for?  Thanks.

EDIT: I wanted to add, the reason I am asking about comparisons is primarily for 'smooth typing feel' and 'smooth sound' between the two boards.  That's what matters most to me, if anyone has any experience with that.  Like I said, the video is for reference.

I had the Leopold with reds for some time.  It was very smooth.  I can not compare it to other red boards.  Eventually I moved to blues.  My favorite is buckling spring but the noise is a bit much.  I loved the reds but needed the click for my own use.  Cherry blacks were too heavy for me and I did not like them at all (not sure if that is the same as vintage black).

I own both boards both with Reds.

Don't think you'll really notice much of a difference in feel and sound between the two with the same switches. The keycaps are nicer on the 750R because of the front printing. Who wants top pad printing on otherwise amazing keycaps? So I guess it depends whether money is a concern. If not I'd say 660M + buying a set of front printed keycaps from Widebasket. That's what I happen to use when I'm not using my 660C.

Eww, I didn't realize even the top-printed PBT on the FC660M are pad-printed.  That's terrible, thanks for bringing that up.  I will either pick up the white FC6660M with the extra front-printed keycap set, or simply buy this really nice-looking black-case FC660M with blank navy PBT and Mx Reds.
