[IC] 60% Aluminium Case for Alps boards eg. KBP V60
« on: Fri, 13 January 2017, 06:10:18 »
I'm wondering how many people would be interested in this. Having recently acquired a KBParadise V60 with Matias (Alps) switches, some initial research has revealed that generic 60% aluminum cases aren't a direct / perfect swap for these boards, because the inclusion of Alps-style switches means the mounting holes on the PCB are different.

My idea is to effectively make up a batch of simple, 60% aluminium cases, similar to ones already on the market, but with the PCB mounts relocated.

I've inquired with one CNC firm so far that work with aluminium products of a similar size, to hopefully gauge a price and min. order etc. If this proves feasible, is it something people would be interested in?

It's not a direct swap - however, the V60 ALPS PCB does have the correct mounting holes for universal cases, it's the plate that doesn't have the cutouts. There is, however for some odd reason 1 screw cutout on the plate next to the spacebar that you can use to screw the board in. If you're going to do a custom run of alu cases specifically for this board, I'd imagine it would be extremely expensive since not many people own Alps V60s, and out of those people not many even want an alu case.

Good points, thanks! I'm going to put my V60 into a case first so I can see what issues I face. I have a quote coming, hopefully, from one company though, so if it's not too expensive I could still look into getting a few made up to sell on.

For what it's worth, hasu's Alps64 PCB already has broad compatibility with a lot of cases on the market.
