nice guy i got them from......filthy boards, and i may only get two working, but still, WOO HOO

one of them has about 20 rivets off. and in the haul two SDL cables (one DIN one PS2)

Not sure quite what to do with the monitor however......there were four 5160s there with 10MB hdds, but there were very rusty :(, and a Model F XT that looked like JAM had been spread on it.

EGA, the video standard time forgot.  I used to have a CGA graphics card and monitor, but after that, I went straight to VGA.

Eh... heh heh... I was stuck at EGA for quite a while. I started with CGA, then stepped to EGA, then got a quirky board that supported SVGA resolutions, but no 256 color modes (only 16 colors for all modes!), then finally a decent super VGA board (Orchid Pro Designer II).

I was doing a lot of BBSing back then, so the lack of 256 color support didn't hurt until I started gaming.

Man, I'm trying to remember my first VGA card. I know I had a WD at some point (which was a "Windows Accelerator"), but I can't seem to remember my frist one. I think it had a "tropical" name like "Santa Cruz," or something (it wasn't Turtle Beach, that's for sure).

EDIT: It was Paradise.  They were made by WD before they started self-branding

Try making do with a Zenith Hercules monitor and 9-pin WD VGA/EGA card that somehow spit VGA out the 9pin port to the monitor(if you tuned it enough to allow for a usable picture).

My first decent VGA card was a Tseng Labs ET3000. Mercen's Orchid card was based on an ET4000 IIRC.

Nice haul on thise keyboards. I am hpoing to score some more decent boards soon. a local charity shop is going to let me go through their boards, I get the pick of what I want, on condition I Identify them so they can Ebay them.

I had a 286-10 with a Herc card and an IBM 5151 monitor.  The original PC monitor, and it rendered a shape completely non-rectangular due to poor alignment.

I replaced it with a $10 used 8-bit VGA card, then a Realtek 3106-based 1Mb SVGA, for a 12" used GoldStar VGA monochrome tube.

I finally replaced it in like '98 with a 14" colour CRT-- I sold a 386-40 built from spares for the $150.
